Rewatching Guardians 2 for like the fourth time in the past few weeks. Sometimes I just get into a movie and it’s where I’m at and I’m just going with it.
Some things I love:
-If you’re a fan of IMAX 3D presentations with all the bells and whistles, the 3D disc here is the best example yet of...
I’ve been looking forward to rewatching the Guardians movies more than I usually do. I’m doing an MCU rewatch that’s mostly chronological with slight exceptions for continuity, and Guardians is one that I’m bumping up to see it sooner.
According to the whole official timeline thing, Guardians...
I absolutely love the use of Fox on the Run in the first teaser trailer with the scene of Baby Groot and the button pushing. That could have made a great little short film in and of itself.
I think I'm in a distinct minority in that I think Guardians 2 is far superior to the first film.
I enjoy the first Guardians movie, but I'm kinda baffled over the response that it gets. Most critics and many fans have praised the film as being something unlike any film that has ever been made...
Sorry, I missed that part - it’s not the first time we’ve mixed ourselves up round these parts. I’m still can’t remember which side of the mirror we’re from.
I really did. I didn’t think I was going to persuade anyone and I wasn’t really interested in trying to, but the longer it went on without a director being hired, the more sure I was. I think they made a big mistake and it was very apparent early on, and it was just a matter of how they were...
You know, I don't think they'd intentionally wake up one day and say, "We're done making Guardians movies."
But I could imagine a scenario - and it's probably an unlikely scenario - where events conspire to make that the easiest course of action. I think the biggest factor will have to do with...
Expect the next Ant-Man movie to open even bigger. He hasn’t gotten the “Avengers bump” yet because he hasn’t appeared in their lineup yet, but he almost certainly will be in Avengers 4 - and that’ll be good for a few extra bucks for his next solo outing.
I agree. If the Avengers franchise was able to survive the loss of Joss Whedon (a much more widely known figure) with no noticeable repercussions at the box office, the loss of Gunn will have virtually zero impact to the box office for Guardians 3.
It won't hurt that many of the stylistic...
As I mentioned in the other thread, that seems like a real shame for a film where the writer/director has stated that the use of 3D and variable aspect ratios was included as part of the screenplay!
It's going to be tough - Pirates 5 is gonna blast it off any of the premium screens it has now, and Wonder Woman will probably steamroll over everything two weeks from now. This movie was first scheduled for an October 2017 release, then moved up to August, and then again to May. Clearly the...
Sean, regarding IMAX - you shouldn't be experiencing a screen door effect (visible pixels) like that. IMAX uses dual projectors slightly offset and the overlap is supposed to blur any visible pixels. The projectors are supposed to run calibration every morning to ensure alignment so you don't...
Been thinking about the movie since seeing it on Thursday, and I'm still really, really happy with it.
I wasn't disappointed with the first movie, but I wasn't overly impressed with it either. I think the praise that it's gotten is wildly disproportionate to what the movie is. I didn't...
I didn't hear it in the movie, and when I was looking through the credits, I didn't see it at the end. I'm wondering if it might have been in an earlier cut. I was expecting it to play on the soundtrack in whatever action scene happened after someone called Rocket "fox" as an insult.
As I was arriving at the theater last night, I heard the (unintentionally) funniest bad review ever from someone leaving the earlier showing. I promise that this is 100% spoiler free. The guy complained:
"The movie had action. And then it had scenes with dialogue to give context to the...
Just got back and will report more later, but just wanted to say for anyone on the fence about how to see it...the IMAX 3D presentation is phenomenal. The use of shifting ratios and 3D is even better than in the first film, there's depth, pop up, and frame busting effects. Visually it was...
I'm a little surprised that my local IMAX doesn't have more shows. When Star Wars TFA and R1 opened up, they ran them in IMAX the first weekend 24/7 from Thursday night until late Sunday. They're running late night shows for Guardians but not going 24/7.
FYI, tickets are now onsale.
As with the previous film, the 3D conversion has been personally supervised by director James Gunn. The IMAX 3D version will include variable aspect ratios switching between 2.40:1 and 1.90:1; director Gunn supervised those transitions.
From Gunn's Facebook page:
Something there is going to underperform.
I think Pirates is a possible candidate for that; there was a time when having the name "Johnny Depp" was a license to print money, and then it started becoming apparent that the asterisk to that was only in Disney franchise movies, and then Alice 2...
Well, when you put it like that.... I was remembering the GOTG take being a bit higher than that. $773M seems doable - I guess there's a minor question of whether or not it was a fluke (large percentages of the population claim to dislike science-fiction and space movies, but for the movie to...
I'm not the betting kind of guy - but I never would have imagined that Avengers: Age Of Ultron would have come in under the original Avengers. I don't think it's as good of a movie, but that doesn't really matter as much. Avengers 1 did such huge business, and then every Marvel character who...
Call me contrarian, but I think this one has a chance to come in under the original's box office. When the original film opened up, it came out at the very beginning of August - the summer movie season was basically over, and it had the box office to itself. The original proved that release...
