That seems to be how the newer TVs are being designed these days. It didn’t make a difference for me but it’s not great if your stand is less wide than the set. It’s not a solid stand so you do wind up with a few inches below most of the TV to store stuff on your table.
Yes, that’s what I purchased. The stand feet are basically on either side of the set without extending past it. There’s about 37 or 38 inches between the feet where the connect on the set. The difference between the bottom of the feet where they sit on the table/stand is more like 47 or 48...
I think you’re gonna be blown away by the increase in brightness on the new set. My daytime watching experience with the TCL is so much more pleasing than it used to be with the LG plasma set I had before.
Congratulations on your new purchase! Even though I started this thread as a TCL vs. Vizio conversation, I think it's pretty cool that it's turning into the general "what newfangled thing do I buy?" thread. Once you're up and running, please let us know what you think of your new set!
Jeffrey - if you haven’t already I’d suggest reading the thread from the start, that way you can see how my thought process evolved towards what I bought.
For me, the bottom line was that TCL was less expensive, slightly better reviewed, and that I got more personal recommendations from people...
Yeah, I’m honestly not sure how much room for improvement there could be with the model I have - seems about as good as you could ever hope for, particularly in this price range.
I totally get the desire to wait. I did some of that too. My plasma died last June, but I didn’t get the TCL until December. I temporarily moved the bedroom TV into the living room until then.
I wanted to be sure I was making the right call, and I also wanted to be sure I was getting the best...
I have experienced absolutely no issue with 24fps content or with smoothing or motion. All of the auto-motion and frame interpolation stuff that comes on by default has been turned off on my set. I know in theory, there are benefits to having a 120hz panel over a 60hz panel, but in actual...
I was between the Vizio P series and the TCL 6 series, and ultimately, I didn't see anything in the specs or user reviews or professional reviews to justify spending the extra money on the Vizio. I also had heard some troubling reports from a couple people who had worked retail/hardware and who...
I'd go for Best Buy and opt for their five year in-home warranty, which is about an extra $100. Best Buy will also usually price match Amazon and Target.
Fortunately I’ve had no issues with banding. I heard it was a problem with the first production run of the model I had, but that it had been sorted out by the later runs.
The black bars are the area I recognized how good the TCL model I have is. If I watch an episode of Star Trek (one one of older 4x3 series, that is) with the lights off - the black bars just disappear and it just seems that I have a 4x3 TV. Pretty incredible.
Hey Osato, I'm not sure about 2019 or 2020 models yet - pretty sure the one I have is the 2018 model.
It very well may be the best television set I've ever owned. I was looking for this just to be an "okay" set that my wife and I could watch TV shows on, where it maybe wasn't going to be...
A little update: you guys are gonna be so proud of me.
I spent some serious time monkeying around with my receivers sync settings so that I could more effectively use the TV with my surround sound gear. My previous TV also had major sync issues with the receiver, and I think it's just that...
I am constantly and consistently stunned by the black levels on the TCL - it blows the plasma out of the water for that. I would say in just about every metric, the TCL is outperforming the plasma. The only criticism one could make is that the plasma did 3D, and the TCLs don't - but I don't...
I can't do side by side in the sense of having two monitors going at the same time. I can do side by side in the sense of having the AppleTV plugged into one input, the Roku on the other, and having both set to play the same content, which is what I did.
To try to get the most objective...
Apropos of nothing, I had an interesting observation.
Using the TV’s built-in Roku, I downloaded the Vudu app and tried playing clips from some movies that I had HD (not 4K) streaming copies of, like Avengers: Infinity War. On the TV’s Vudu app, I thought it looked good but not as good as the...
Matt, that's a well-taken point. There are some exceptions to my "don't use the surround with TV shows" preference - I couldn't imagine watching Twin Peaks without having the surround sound for David Lynch's expansive soundscapes.
I also get worried - perhaps unnecessarily so - that if I use...
Observations after about a week:
-There is some slight (and I mean VERY slight) vignetting in the extreme corners of the set - in other words, it's slightly darker there. It's really almost impossible to notice. And it's totally within the letterbox bars for 1.85:1 content (and obviously...
I’m not a gamer (beyond maybe a couple Nintendo and Super Nintendo games), but my wife is - she’s got the PS4.
She was playing something called Horizon Zero Dawn when I got home from work. I watched for a few minutes and the picture quality was impressive on the TCL. I asked about input lag...
I thought I'd share some initial first impressions after setup and some light viewing.
Setup was very simple and easy. The TV came securely packaged in a thin rectangular box. Because I'm using it on a stand rather than wall mounting, I had to attach the stand myself, which was pretty easy...
