My copy arrived from Amazon today.
The sticker on the shrink wrap indicated the discs were made in Germany and the package was assembled stateside.
I would bet (dollars to donuts, as someone used to say) that rather than any nefarious scheme or poor planning by the studio, it just got held up...
I have the massive three disc soundtrack that came out a few years ago and it’s incredible but I’m super excited to be able to watch the movie that way!
In this case, I don’t think retailer preferences have anything to do with it - stock basically isn’t available yet due to widespread replication delays, compounded by the pandemic and further exacerbated by recent hurricane activity impacting shipping lines.
Reminds me of the time I was eagerly anticipating the delivery of new remastered editions of Billy Joel’s catalog…
…and then the box had the complete solo works of David Gilmour.
Not the same!
Nelson, thanks for the well wishes - we had some storm damage and a couple close calls but we were extraordinarily lucky, no one was hurt, only minor damage to the house.
I read Return to Tomorrow when I had the flu. Apparently lying in bed is the right position to be able to read it, though I...
It’s a real trade off! I really enjoyed being able to write up Lower Decks for HTF, but that meant watching everything on those discs in two or three days instead of two or three weeks had I just been watching for myself. Individual movies aren’t that much different but box sets and movies take...
The story with that shot is that it didn’t come out right but they didn’t have time to fix it in 1979 - so that’s how 1979 audiences saw it.
They fixed it for future home video releases.
For this 4K release, it appears they’ve gone back to the original negative, which featured that poorly...
I look forward to your thoughts on this one :)
Planning a four night marathon when mine arrive, although there’s a greater than zero chance I’ll end up watching the existing discs for the other two, six or nine films after!
There’s been a replication logjam since prior to the pandemic and other supply and delivery chain issues still ongoing from the pandemic - a lot of studios are sending less review product than previously, and later than usual.
The good news is that the HD versions of the new masters are up on...
It had a one week special engagement at select IMAX theaters at a time when such venues were much more limited. It wasn’t until after Avatar’s debut at the end of 2009 that theaters and the industry went all in on multiple formats with significantly higher prices. Don’t get me wrong, Star Trek...
Maybe that’s for the best when all is said and done. I love the Kelvin movies and think they were perfectly cast, but even if they made a new movie every year, that’s not enough Trek to have the kind of experience I’m looking for. What they’re doing on the TV side I’m loving. I happen to love...
Star Trek ‘09 grossed more domestically than Into Darkness did. Into Darkness overperformed internationally which is an anomaly for Trek, which box office wise has always played better domestically. Less people saw Into Darkness in the states than saw the ‘09 movie.
The numbers make it seem...
Paramount certainly failed to cultivate an audience despite the massive reservoir of good will that J.J. Abrams generated with his 2009 film.
My entire life of being a Trek fan before that movie was essentially spent in hiding - don’t admit it in grade school or you’ll get beaten up in the...
If that’s what Paramount feels they need to do in order to put this release on a path to financial viability, I’m ok with the double dip. They could have easily just put out the theatrical editions and called it a day. That they’re putting effort in, even if the product configuration isn’t...
Yes there is. It’s over a black background, as it played in theaters. For the director’s edition, they added some twinkling stars in the background but the music remains the same. I always thought it sounded great but when I saw the movie in theaters just before the pandemic it sounded even more...
That’s one possibility. Work could be ongoing on a rolling basis. Another is that they’re holding them back for a second set to keep the MSRP low on each volume. They didn’t explicitly say.
I’m glad that, unlike some other Paramount releases, we’re getting remastered discs in both formats simultaneously. I can only play the BDs right now but I won’t hesitate to future proof myself by picking up the combo pack.
The individual BDs look gorgeous, though, I love that they returned to...
I worry that this is what will happen if a large enough percentage of potential buyers decide to wait for a different product configuration which may or may not ever come.
I was pretty impressed at what’s included in this set, it ticks off the boxes of pretty much all that people have asked...
I pretty much agree.
The original theatrical cut and the special longer version are strange by Star Trek standards. They’re cold at times, almost harsh, but to me that fits in with the story being told. This isn’t the valiant crew of the series on another mission of the week, nor is it a heroic...
Bullmoose has it for $78, they don’t charge tax to out of state residents, sometimes ship before street date and generally package items better than Amazon - if you don’t mind spending a little more than the lowest price Amazon had, that might not be a bad deal.
Also curious to see what the...
