Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

4K sets are available from the UK for Avengers (out now) and Captain America (coming in April). There is no region coding for 4K discs, and the blu's are likely all-region...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

Like Robert, I didn't really think it was very likely, or that Disney would admit they were wrong and backtrack on their decision. At thte same time, I didn't really see any other way for them to restore the franchise. There didn't seem to be any other directors jumping at the vacancy, and they...

Gotta watch out for those old tweets. :D Loved the SNL sketch this past weekend: “This game is sponsored by Twitter,” host Keenan Thompson announced. “Twitter: one mistake, and we’ll kill you.”

I'm not sure Disney really had much choice if they wanted to salvage the GOTG franchise and preserve good feelings with the Marvel division. Somewhere Tino's head is exploding. Didn't he say authoritatively, "no, no way, never, not in a million years," a few times? :D

They've pretty much already done that, creating all kinds of unnecessary issues by their massive overreaction to old news. As Josh so eloquently described, there are a number of signficant roadblocks to making the "Vol. 3" movie--financial, casting, etc.--and also the uncertainly as to whether...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

I think Guardians is done, period. There's going to be so much time between films by the time they can finally find someone willing to direct the film, and I'm sure most of the cast has moved on. Then there's the audience that may not be willing to support the film as they have in the past due...

Ditto. Good for him and DC. This continues my upswing in interest for future DC films that began with Wonder Woman, anticipation for December's Aquaman, now this.

Yeah, the second Ant-Man film improved on the gross of the first by 20% and is in the Top 10 worldwide for the year (pending some fall releases). I'm not sure why that would be considered disappointing for a second-tier Marvel character.

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

His only objection is that he didn't write the script. Did he really "write" A Star is Born? It's a remake of an existing property, so I'd question how much "writing" he did on that project. If he wants to make his mark on GOTG3, I doubt Gunn would have an issue if Cooper wanted to do a...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

You'd have to elaborate, as there are several examples of directors jumping from small films to big budget action with great success. Jake mentioned Taika Waititi. James Wan went from Insidious and The Conjuring to Fast & Furious 7 and Aquaman. Peyton Reed jumped from Bring It On, The Break Up...

Good idea, Cooper directing with Gunn's script. That's probably one of the few compromises that would satisfy most of the cast, crew, and fans.

I guess you're far more magnanimous and understanding than I would be. If one of my clients completely blew up my work schedule that had been set for months due to utter mismanagement and incompetence, their satisfaction would become my absolute lowest priority. I don't think Disney has any...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

I think it is up to the cast if they want to keep an opening for Disney (i.e. "I'd love to do your film, but if Disney gets GOTG3 up and running again, that's my priority"), but I don't think they're under any specific obligation to do so. As of now the film is postponed indefinitely, has no...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

It might be expected if relations were good between the studios and cast, but I don't think they're under any obligation to bend over backwards to conform to Disney's schedule since they're the ones that blew up the already-established timeline. I'm sure Universal will want Chris Pratt for the...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

Under California law, personal service contracts can extend for no more than 7 years. So the third film needs to be made within that time period or the existing contracts become void and need to be re-negotiated. Assuming these contracts were signed around 2013, Disney would need to make the...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

I don't think it'll affect him with other studios. I think most agree with Bautista and are flabbergasted that Disney has nuked one of their own huge franchises.

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

That's probably exactly the goal. He doesn't want to let Disney off the hook. Out of sight, out of mind, after all. All Disney had to do when this started was to relase a statement such as, "Some tweets made by James Gunn years ago have recently resurfaced. Gunn had already realized how...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

I think that's part of the problem. Either they have to go with an inexperienced nobody, and take their chances that they will be able to pull it off, or keep Gunn involved and allow him to essentially recruit his own replacement. Either way it remains an ongoing story. Less so if Gunn approves...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

People may not know or care specifically about Gunn and whether he directed or not, but it will come up frequently in interviews and press about the change of directors and how they are different than Gunn, how the style of the film may have changed, how much they may have altered Gunn's script...

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

I think it's a mistake not to rehire Gunn. Every interview with the cast and every press article about the film from now until it's released will mention the fiasco over the director's firing. The only way to get the issue to go away is to rehire Gunn. Without that, the film is continuously tainted.

/ Universal just halted production on Cowboy Ninja Viking, so maybe that frees up some of Pratt's schedule. I don't know what else he has in the pipeline aside from GOTG3 and the next Jurassic World sequel.

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

Correct. I use internet archive sites quite regularly find info from web sites that no longer exist. If you've posted it somewhere, it still exists, even if you think you've deleted it.

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

Possibly, but I think it's more likely they're getting one earful from the cast, another earful from Marvel, and are having a hard time finding anyone qualified willing to take the job to replace him.

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

Marvel's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY Vol. 2: May 5th, 2017

Just so many weasel words saying, "yeah it sucks, but rather than stand up for what's right we'll just collect our Disney paychecks and move on with whoever they hire to take his place." Any respect I might have had for this cast just went down the toilet. I'll likely be skipping GOTG3.
