I think that's part of the problem. Either they have to go with an inexperienced nobody, and take their chances that they will be able to pull it off, or keep Gunn involved and allow him to essentially recruit his own replacement. Either way it remains an ongoing story. Less so if Gunn approves...

People may not know or care specifically about Gunn and whether he directed or not, but it will come up frequently in interviews and press about the change of directors and how they are different than Gunn, how the style of the film may have changed, how much they may have altered Gunn's script...

I think it's a mistake not to rehire Gunn. Every interview with the cast and every press article about the film from now until it's released will mention the fiasco over the director's firing. The only way to get the issue to go away is to rehire Gunn. Without that, the film is continuously tainted.

Just so many weasel words saying, "yeah it sucks, but rather than stand up for what's right we'll just collect our Disney paychecks and move on with whoever they hire to take his place." Any respect I might have had for this cast just went down the toilet. I'll likely be skipping GOTG3.
