I'm not sure we're clear if you're talking about Madagascar or Dragon. My money's on Madagascar, as I don't recall anything "weird" about Dragon 3. I think Carl was talking about Dragon in the post you quoted.

I'd recommend it. I liked all three films in the franchise. I'd also recommend the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
