We received our prize for the Pick the Winners contest we won at the Oscar viewing dinner party. A $25 gift card to a local restaurant and 2 passes to Regal theaters. Dinner and a movie! :)

I mentioned my Pick the Winners win on my Facebook timeline. A graphic artist friend of mine (that happens to have a fun sense of humor) superimposed one of my profile pictures into an image that is familiar to holiday movie fans, suggesting what I should win:

I was just informed I won the "Pick the Winners" contest at the Oscar viewing party we attended. 17 out of 24 was good enough for the win. I'm told my prize is on its way in U.S. mail.

Yep, PwC managing partners Cullinan and Ruiz will never work the Oscars again!

At least they still have their jobs at PwC.

Yep, Parker did totally address it. And he refused to apologize. Innocent people usually act that way.
I've read multiple articles about the incident. My personal conclusion is Nate Parker is and was innocent.
'The Birth of a Nation' is a fabulous film. Your loss if you don't see it.

I watched 'Moonlight' today. Its an EXCELLENT film with awesome performances.
But it's not my pick for best film of 2016. Of the Best Picture nominees, I'd place 'Moonlight' at sixth (out of eight, I haven't seen 'Fences' yet).
1. La La Land
2. Arrival
3. Hidden Figures
4. Hacksaw Ridge

I agree. Kimmel could have gone easier on the political jokes, but the show as a whole was less political than some recent years.
Taking swipes at political figures goes with the territory when it comes to the master of ceremonies. And Kimmel spent far more time picking on Matt Damon than he...
This just in... The Academy also used the WRONG photograph for Janet Patterson (Costume Designer) in its 'In Memoriam' sequence. The photo is actually very much alive film producer Jan Chapman. Oops!

Well, the BP Oscar going to 'Moonlight' or not, Cathy and I had a TERRIFIC time watching the big show last night. We attended a charity Red Carpet Gala Oscar viewing dinner party here in San Diego. We got dressed up in our fancy duds and enjoyed a delicious plated meal and as much champagne as...
In this photo, that's PwC employee Brian Cullinan holding the red envelope (the correct, Best Picture envelope). The gal in the red dress is PwC employee Martha Ruiz. As we already know, each of them has a set of envelopes during the big show. They are on opposite sides of the stage to hand...
No, it was still recognizable.
I bet this is the last time the Academy lets a couple of septuagenarians announce the most important award of the night. It's not Beatty and Dunaway's fault, but I think most presenters would have realized there was something wrong (which Beatty and Dunaway...
Wow, what an Oscar night! I was 18 out of 24 until the awkward switch to 'Moonlight' at the end. But 17 out of 24 is still pretty darn good. I might even be good enough to win the "Pick the Winners' contest at the charity event we attended.
Speaking of which... My wife and I will do that Red...
My final predictions:
Best Picture: La La Land
Director: Damien Chazelle, La La Land
Actor in Leading Role: Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Actress in Leading Role: Emma Stone, La La Land
Actor in Supporting Role: Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
Actress in Supporting Role: Viola Davis, Fences...
I got my tux out in preparation for the Oscar viewing dinner party we are going to on Sunday. It's been a couple of years since I've worn it. To my delight, it didn't shrink in the closet and it still fit. I didn't even have to exhale to get the top button secured. :) Just to be safe, I...
Yes, I think 'La La Land' is a shoo-in for 8 Oscars:
1) Picture
2) Director
3) Actress in Leading Role
4) Cinematography
5) Film Editing
6) Original Score
7) Original Song (my pick is 'Audition', but either it or 'City of Stars' will win)
8) Original Screenplay
The other 3 I think it might win...
The wife and I saw 'Lion' today. Excellent film and a real tear jerker. But it's not going to win Best Picture.
The Booth Bijou gives 'Lion' 4.5 out of 5 stars.
'La La Land' has BP sewed up, IMHO.

Each year, I usually go to two symposiums at Academy HQ the day before the big show. I've decided to skip it this year in favor of a local Academy Awards viewing dinner party. It's a charity event to raise money for a children's program. The hosting organization does a nice job, complete with...
Best Actress in a Leading Role is going to Emma Stone. Best Film is going to La La Land. Best Director is going to Damien Chazelle.
I feel these are all absolute locks. La La Land will take at least 8 Oscars, with a possibility of 11.
Mark
I agree! And I liked Streep's performance in FFJ. But I feel Adams's performance in 'Arrival' was exceptional.
But the Oscar will go to Emma Stone, so it's a moot point.
