Yup, not every catalog film released on 4K/UHD has been restored. RAH, what would you call what Warner did with The Searchers that's being shown next month from a 4K scan?
In fairness to myself, it was over three years ago when I watched that 4K disc. I don’t remember those instances being distracting to me. A rewatch is in order for one of my favorite films from that film era.
I think the 4K disc looks better than the 4K stream too. I wish Cameron didn’t reimagine this home video release. However, I did not find it distracting once I got into the movie.
You don't get it. Back then the studios cared about what reviewers and sites like ours were saying about their product. Not so much today. Customer service and satisfaction has been diminished across the board so it's not just a home video issue. Companies just don't care as much about their...
Most of those details have been noted by many of us. The only ones overlooking those details are the few that want to continue this discussion ad-nauseum. Let them have at it without the rest of us continuing to go down that rabbit hole.
I’m going to ignore much of your post because frankly it’s not worth it because I’m not on trial here for not agreeing with your POV.
Regarding that 2008 Patton Blu-ray there was much criticism from RAH and even others like me about that Blu-ray. Just because we might have acknowledged it...
It was during our HTF Meet at Fox that some of us including myself personally complained to Schawn Belston at Fox about that Blu-ray. IMO, that travesty was much easier to see than what you guys are pointing out about this Alien 4K/UHD.
I can see a resolution difference between a DVD, BD and 4K discs at my normal sitting position which isn't 4 meters and I have a much larger display screen. Furthermore, the benefit of 4K/UHD isn't just resolution.
People are giving them a so-called pass because they're not noticing those issues like some of you have noted. TBH, I'm glad I don't see the same issues with these encodes like you do because then I will always be unhappy with this hobby. The home video industry has always been screwed up and...
IMO, there are few of us that are noticing such an issue when the movie is in motion, at our normal sitting position and as we're caught up in the actual film.
