I mean...I am about to state the obvious...but...
Something is wrong here.
A large Collector's Box, normally reserved for the box-of-junk contents
on sale at Walmart for $19.95.
You mean to tell me that there will only be discs inside that huge package?
There has got to be some mistake unless...
Frankly, I don't think there could be any "in your face" gimmickry taking
something that wasn't originally lensed in 3D and upconverting it.
I have yet to see any conversion where they were able to place objects
outside of the screen.
Should have my copy today. Will have it reviewed tomorrow.
By the way....
We got our review copy but it is being reshipped to me as we speak.
Hope to see and have a review up by Sunday morning. Really looking
forward to it.
Thank you for saying this.
Every once in a while someone states that this was a wasted
effort on Warner.
I suppose time will tell if that is true or not, but I think OZ in 3Dis going to sell very well for the studio.
The classic film market, on the other hand, has not been doing
well at...
Roland,
The problem with the information you provided on that link...
We are talking about the 2D Blu-ray disc, not the 3D restoration.
We already know that there was work done to restore the 2D into 3D.
The question is, for those concerned buying the new 75th Anniversary
2D Blu-ray disc, is...
Warner is not giving up that information. I have tried many times to get
an answer directly from them and it seems the question is being dodged.
I am presuming this is the exact same release as the 70th Anniversary.
However, I would advise everyone to wait for reviews which will
hopefully...
A lot of people were vehemently against this conversion.
Some vowed never to buy this Blu-ray to support Warner's
blasphemous attempt to convert this film to 3D.
....and let me stand on record of saying I am all for this kind
of conversion as long as the original untouched version is
forever...
Great article. This looks like it's going to be a remarkable conversion.
BTW, got invited to a NYC screening of OZ in 3D tomorrow night, but
unfortunately, it falls on the same day as our yearly family reunion.
I am merely repeating what I have said previously in this thread....
I have attempted several times to find out if the 2D version is a
new master or the same version that was included in the 70th
Anniversary release.
The fact that the studio would not comment and actually raved
about the...
As far as the 3D transfer is concerned, from this source....
Warner Bros. insisted the 3D conversion be done at a very high resolution (8k) scanning of the original Technicolor camera negative. The restored 2D image was then transformed by creating a depth-map of each frame to construct 3D...
I am continuing dialogue, but I cannot promise anything.
It may be too late, or, they are not interested in fixing the problems.
I am only thinking aloud, not speaking for the studio.
UPDATE
Here is a response I finally received from the studio....
The 2009 BD of OZ was state of the art upgraded from the 2004 release. The master of the film itself in 2D would be exactly the same because it was 6K or 8k scan from orig negative, and there is still nothing better. The...
I agree.
There is the potential for Warner Bros. to make a huge profit here -- more than
what they would have made if they invested in another classic BD release.
...but the real reason I am back here in this thread...
You guys have asked for me to find out if this new 2D Blu-ray release is...
Trust me, I am still working on getting an answer. I have gotten as
far as waiting to hear back from the tech team. These things often
take time. Will get back to everyone.
ADVISORY
I think it's time that the main participants of the past few posts take a
break from trying to convince each other that their opinion matters the
most.
Members should not be telling others to stop sharing their opinions.
Remarks like that don't belong on this forum.
Allow me to set...
I would bet you anything that a few highly positive reviews
posted about how great OZ looks in 3D (if it actually does) and many
of the naysayers will rush out to buy it just to see it for themselves.
I'll tell you what.
Give me a day to get an answer to you on that.
I think it's an excellent question and I believe I can
obtain an answer from the studio.
I am going with the 3D Blu-ray.
At least it will contain the new transfer in both 3D and 2D.
Say what you want about Warner releasing this movie multiple
times on Blu-ray...
...at least the studio didn't force (as they have done in the past)
a "box of junk" down our throats. I commend...
Charles,
I don't know the answer to that question.
Judging from this thread (just did a Google Search)
I am guessing that TapaTalk (which HTF app is based on)
does not support polling.
