July is another banner month for the Criterion Channel. Too many gems to cover all of them, but for thos who have never seen any of Atom Egoyan movies, check them out. Maybe “The Adjuster” is a great example. Plenty of goofy classics as well, like “Barbarella”. I’ll have to look into the...

But that doesn’t sound like a Disney+ related comment — ”ratings” have to do with theatrical releases, and yes, it is possible to get a NC 17 rating strictly for language.

Another one of the expiring at the end of the month films: The Hunger Has aged very well -- just as amazing now as it was the day it opened.

Either I'm blind in this respect (absolutely possible - I was never bothered over the 24/25 frames difference for NTSC vs. PAL so I can see not noticing it) but it is also entirely possible that there are other factors at play, and an AppleTV 4K in and of itself doesn't cause the problem...

From the disappearances at the end of the month list: a bunch of Burt Lancaster films including Local Hero New films include a few with Quincy Jones soundtracks - started watching MacKenna's Gold last night - I saw it a few times as a kid - one of the first Westerns I ever saw. It is very...

From the disappearances at the end of the month list: a bunch of Jean-Pierre Melville films including two of his best: Bob Le Flambeur and Léon Morin, Priest - very highly recommended. Also a bunch of Lina Wertmuller movies including Swept Away. Lastly, Escape From New York.

I will be very grateful if both of you (and any other TCC user who cares about subtitles) write a brief note to Criterion - so they realize there are a number of unhappy users? And we don't end up waiting 6 or 12 or 18 more months for it to be fixed...

Couple of complaints: English/CC subtitles for English language movies on the Criterion Channel don't work on AppleTV 4K - example - Cookie (great movie, BTW) - I was at my mom's and at 86 she needs subtitles - her hearing needs help. I complained to Criterion - their response: I'm glad they...

Watched "It's Always Fair Weather" -- one of the expiring in December movies which I had never seen before. Superb transfer and if you aren't offended by musicals, absolutely great. There are a whole bunch of musicals in the expiring in December list which I have never seen, and I will try to...

So it was there for all of 2 weeks? And I missed the warning, otherwise I would have watched all the extras? I'm lucky I saw the movie itself and one of the extras... I guess I have to carefully to read the list of movies going away (which I did for December and will definitely watch some of...

So now it has gotten even worse: searching for “Klute” on either AppleTV or iPad on the Criterion app isn’t producing any results. Searching for “Fonda” or “Pakula” doesn’t return Klute or any of its extras. Is it even buggier than I thought or did they (secretly) remove Klute altogether??

Thank you again! I was just googling and there doesn’t seem to an easily findable way - in that respect, HBO for instance gives you an easy to find list about the coming departures.

Thanks for the info - and link please! Example: Betty Blue & Diva: to my knowledge neither is a (new) Criterion/Janus film. I’d love to see both in better quality than the DVDs I own. But as I have seen both (in the case of Diva, maybe over a dozen times) they are not a priority- but I’d...

So does the Criterion Channel drop movies dad have been there for say a year, the way HBO does? If it does drop anything, how do you find out in advance?

Yes, exactly correct. Never happened to me in the Netflix app though - and it is not connected to general searches either(?) I still think there is a structural (UI) issue or a bug with the Criterion app. Also, I understand why Netflix is staying out of the aTV app/general search - they wish...

Exactly - but it is even worst: when searching on my aTV 4K I never type: I went in the Criterion Chanel app search screen, then pressed the talk on the remote and said "Klute" - it then acted like it wasn't even available from Criterion and asked me to rent or buy it. And yes, it never...

I watched Klute today. Amazing movie and stunningly good transfer - I certainly never remember seeing a 35mm print that looked anywhere nearly as good as the Criterion Channel version. The color transfer is out of this world. (Any complaints about the Criterion Channel vs. Criterion Blu-rays?)...

Great movie! In fact I just watched a couple of the documentary extras last night, and look forward to seeing the movie again for the 17th time... (OK, probably an exaggeration, but basically every time it played at the Walter Reade I saw it, and I must have watched the 2002 DVD I have at least...
