Marc I just checked Amazon.com and you can indeed search Bluray for classic releases. It's under Movies&tv>classics>Bluray. It is very easy to find and searchable. Ihave been a TCM forum member for years and it seems many of their posters use the Warner Archive. I believe that is where...
I "HEART" classic movies and television as well. My husband and I are avid lovers of the classics but the reality of the situation according to Netflix Chief Financial Officer David Wells (see Post #140) is that fewer and fewer of Netflix dollars will be going to film and they will instead be...
Have younger folks ever purchased classic cinema on shiny discs in droves? When DVD first came out and I was in my teens I don't recall anyone I knew purchasing Casablanca or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. They were purchasing movies like Batman or Blade Runner. Being the "folks with the buying power"...
Its been called out numerous times in the media that the above mentioned companies were poorly managed. Circuit City didnt close because fewer people were purchasing classic cinema on shiny discs.
Jim I am looking forward to the canal horrors as well. I do have a question does anyone know of a website or thread that talks about DVD releases from region 2 that are not available here in region 1? I have been unable to find such topics of discussion.
Good post Robert! I agree there are so many venues to get your home entertainment now and its just Grand! People like choice and having multiple choices to receive content weather you want to buy or purchase is wonderful in my opinion!
One of the main reasons for the market being smaller was also because many of the shops that used to carry classic films have closed. The Borders, Circuit City, Tower Record and Virgin Records of the world have closed leaving smaller and smaller storefronts for the studios to sell their...
Good points Douglas but the problem with Netflix is that if you like films they are no longer focusing on Movies but more on Television, not good for those of us who like Classic film:
Netflix Chief Financial Officer says this as well...
I'm not sure what the customers numbers are these days but they are large enough for companies like Warner to create successful ventures like the Warner Archive. The studio execs have publicly discussed the overwhelming success of the program not only for classic film but for classic television...
Brandon I must admit that I did not show any interest in classic film until I hit my early 20s. It was something that I have gained an interest in during my adulthood. So much so that I started the Saint Louis Film Society here during that time. It has been our goal to get younger people...
The Laserdisc market was a niche and survived for almost 20 years with far, far fewer people with home theaters back in the day. 30 million players have been sold to market and 4th qtr hasn't been tallied yet for Blu ray. There are too many players and discs out there to call it a Niche.
Thanks Bryan! I do like to back up what I am saying with quotes from people in the industry that would know... the studio Presidents and Executives of the majors. In post #82 I have a quote listed for all the major studio Executives and they seem to be pretty upbeat about the current market...
None of your friends have a Blu Ray player but as of right now 30 Million people...30 MILLION! have players. This does not include game machines and 2011 holiday sales. That kind of sales number is hardly a niche as most business would kill for such numbers.
Ahollis, Please read my post #82 in this thread. The studios dont sound unhappy with current sales of their movies. In fact take a look at the President of Warner Bros quote:
Yes opposite of what some in this thread are telling us?
Yes they really need to make many improvements. Also outside forces come into play with downloads and streaming. You need a good internet connection which many communities here in the US lack. Where I live Mid America is not ready for Blu Ray quality downloads and streaming. Again, while...
I understand that you enjoy streaming but not everyone wants or will stream. Downloads and Media will be there for those people as well who want to own the content. If your talking about stream services like Netflix they are expected to be operating in the RED next year. Stock down and bad...
Yes my Best Buy has a smaller DVD section as well but an increased BD section. I noticed they have also increased their 3DBD section as they become more popular.
Again, Universal seems pretty happy with the selling floor at the stores in this new article published this week:
[url=http://www.homemediamagazine.com/market-analysis/year-turnaround-25968]http://www.homemediamagazine.com/market-analysis/year-turnaround-25968 Hard to dispute Mr Kornblau...
Are these High definition films i.e. BD quality? I purchased a HDTV and that is what I like to feed it (HD). High definition materials in my neck of the wood will (and have) destroyed my monthly bandwidth and data caps.
I cannot locate any source that mentions this, tried searching the internet (google is my friend!) Something like this would have been HEAVILY reported in the media with Walmart being one of the largest retailers.
