Writer/director James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour) adapts Dave Eggers's dystopian novel about society's willing abandonment of personal privacy in the digital age.
Emma Watson plays Mae Holland, a recent college graduate who begins a meteoric rise through the ranks of The Circle, a seemingly utopian tech company that espouses the belief that "sharing is caring." Tom Hanks plays Eamon Bailey, one of the "three wise men" who run the company, a charismatic figure somewhere between Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg by way of Jim Jones and O'Brien from Nineteen Eight-Four. John Boyega plays Kalden, a mysterious figure within the company. Karen Gillan plays Annie Allerton, Mae's old roommate who got her the job at the company but watches in frustration as Mae rises above her in the corporate ranks. Patton Oswalt, Bill Paxton and Ellar Coltrane also star.
