Seriously been forever since seeing this and as I remember my favorite of Johnson's war movies. With an Oscar for cinematography this is going to be killer on blu. My purchasing has slowed down since having kids but I will be getting this one.

Great release!

Interesting to note though that the old DVD cover art was more relevant thematically for the movie rather than this blu ray release. I assume this artwork is original to the release of the film theatrically though. The DVD showed the immense stress and the struggle that the soldiers were under during the battle. The blu ray art almost makes it look like the film is a comedy (or maybe even a musical!).

Mr. Korstick:

I think you are right. I hadn't thought about it like that until you mentioned it. Seeing photos of the Pearl Harbor commemoration yesterday really strikes home. Those veterans saw a lot that they probably would have liked to forget, especially so soon, so a dark and grim movie poster probably wouldn't have been a big hit with potential viewers.

I suppose I'm used to seeing the movie posters from the late 1950's and 1960's about the war...

I'm a huge melodrama fan. Douglas Sirk is one of my top 5 favorite directors. Some Came Running and Peyton Place are among my all time favorite films from the 50s decade.
I love melodramas too, but not so much in a "War" film.

I saw this film for the first time just a few years ago. It is an absolutely superb film - very underrated IMO. It should look fantastic on blu-ray; the cinematography was superb.
