While it's not the great versions from 1950 or 1937, this 1985 remake might be a fun guilty pleasures. That is if you enjoy crummy Indiana Jones rip offs.

Put me down for this one. Hopefully far superior to the crummy earlier non anamorphic DVD release:

Great news. Can finally add it to the collection with the sequel (lost city of gold). Thought it was weird the sequel was released first on blu ray.

I will personally wait for comparison with the recently released German Bluray because that one has a maxed out bitrate and housed in a BD50 while I think Olive's Blurays are usually BD25?

I'll stick with the German blu ray no matter how great the Olive transfer is. Watching the German blu, I'd forgotten how godawful the movie is! If I'd never seen Sharon Stone before, I would assume she was an untalented model who was the producer's girlfriend. Fortunately we have Casino, Basic Instinct and Last Dance to prove otherwise.

I'm thrilled to get more cannon goodness on Blu, but I'm a little bit sad that Olive is doing it. No extras at a premium price is not my favorite business model.

Why they've released this crummy version when the two much better versions haven't been released on blu-ray is baffling to me.

The producers, whose syntax was fractured, wanted "Stone" to star in the film, so Sharon Stone was duly employed. But who they meant was Kathleen Turner, the star of Romancing the Stone. :) I like it fine for vintage Cannon cheese.

It's out now, and I got it for a more than reasonable $12.99 off Amazon. Reviled by most--but for me, all it lacks for "Saturday afternoon at the movies" fun is 3D, which co-writer Gene Quintano provided in spades in the earlier COMIN' AT YA and TREASURE OF FOUR CROWNS. It's briskly paced and heathily funded for a Cannon film, at least till the end, when the budget for a proper giant spider and water serpent went missing. But most of the laughs are intentional, as the two stars straight-facedly endure many pulpish, ramshackle, un-PC thrills as Jerry Goldsmith's score, the one element that really gives the Indiana Jones movies a run for their money, plays and plays. (It and Herbert Lom's performance, nominated for Razzies, are the two things I most enjoy about the film, go figure.) The bare-bones Blu-ray offers a handsome widescreen presentation of a movie from Cannon's short-lived salad days. The no-funds, no-fun sequel is appalling.

I do wonder how I completely missed this film back in 1985 (college sophomore year). Didn't know it even existed back then.
Of course it was completely overshadowed that year by Beverly Hills Cop (1985), Back To The Future (1985), View To A Kill (1985) and Rambo (1985). Which probably explains how I missed seeing this in 1985.

Be a lot nicer if the powers that be made this a package deal with HD Blus of the the 1950 and 1937 versions as well.

It came out around Thanksgiving of 1985, months after those summer attractions and almost a year after Cop. Being a Cannon film it was never going to compete with those, but, like LIFEFORCE and a few others, it had a bigger-league budget and a higher profile. Given its aping of the Indiana Jones movies I doubt it would fit in with the other two, even if that were possible given rights.
