I am still mystified why La La Land is so critically acclaimed. A musical in which no one can sing, in which the music is mediocre, the acting is meh. I tell myself "to each his own", but this is one of the biggest "I don't get it" movies in my life.

I've learned that lesson a long time ago that my opinion is just my opinion and at times, it's going to be a minority opinion. It's how I got over previous nominations from past years I didn't get in my humble opinion. And, it's how I'm getting over La La Land. A film I liked just not nearly as much as many other people that seem to love it.

I'm too low brow to see most of the documentaries and foreign features but other than those, I've already seen nearly everything nominated in every other category. Nothing against Meryl but I could care less about Florence Foster Jenkins.

I'm glad to see they remembered Viggo Mortensen since Captain Fantastic came out in the summer.

If I was a voter, I'd go for Manchester By The Sea but I don't have a problem with La La Land's likely win.

I think Amy Adams should have been nominated instead of Streep, but she's acting royalty so there you have it.

I think it's an Oscar law that if Meryl Streep is in a movie, she has to get a nomination. :) Since I haven't seen FFJ, it's not fair for me to knock it but I wish they had gone with Jessica Chastain (for Miss Sloane) or Amy Adams (Arrival or Nocturnal Animals) over Streep. I'm glad that Ruth Negga got a nomination because that'll get more people to see Loving.

Yeah, that's the one acting nom that I have a bit of an issue with. Nothing against Streep, but Adams should have been in that list,

Other than that, this is just a really strong crop of nominees across the board. Most pleased that "Hell Or High Water" made the BP cut. They even got the correct two songs from "La La Land". :)

I thought The Lobster was one of the most original films had seen in years. With its Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, I see I was not the only one to think that.

I just bought it on Blu-ray, I will definitely watch it before Awards night.

Surprised that Rogue One wasn't nominated for Score. Its truly tremendous and serves the film WELL and was very creative in mixing some old familiar cues to some stellar new ones. First Star Wars film without John Williams too. Oh Well...

I don't understand Kubo for Visual Effects? Seems like animated films are all CGI visual effects from start to finish. Not sure how that competes with live action films with FX?

Also interesting that we have two Disney films nominated for Animated Feature, but no Pixar. No love for Finding Dory?

I agree! And I liked Streep's performance in FFJ. But I feel Adams's performance in 'Arrival' was exceptional.

But the Oscar will go to Emma Stone, so it's a moot point.

I'm just upset that my favorite movie of the year, Sing Street, didn't get any nominations.

After I watch Captain Fantastic I have seen all nominees in major categories.

Yeah, Zootopia isn't a bad movie by any stretch but I thought Finding Dory was much better.

Very disappointed in Finding Dory. I thought Zootopia much better. Hell, Sausage Party was better than both of them. [emoji13]

Solid list. Very happy that Hacksaw Ridge scored 5 noms including Picture and Director for Gibson ![emoji106]

La La Land gas a good shot at history if it wins 12 Oscars which it has a good chance to do. I'll be rooting for it as it's my #1 of the year as it is for many.

Brad Pitt has a very good track record as a producer. He has been either producer or executive producer on 6 Best Picture Nominees in the last 6 years:
2016 - Moonlight
2015 - The Big Short
2014 - Selma
2013 - 12 Years a Slave
2011 - Moneyball
2011 - The Tree of Life
