Paramount Pictures, which lost a whopping $450 million in 2016, has accepted the resignation of Chairman Brad Grey.
Grey had helmed Paramount for 12 years, and he originally got off to a fast start. From 2007 - 2011, Paramount Pictures finished #1, #2, #2, #2, and #1 among the Big Six Hollywood studios in domestic box office. Its best year under Grey was 2011. Fueled by huge successes such as Transformers: Dark of the Moon and two Avengers movies, Captain America and Thor, Paramount powered its way to almost $2 Billion in domestic box office, nearly 20% of the market.
But since then, Paramount has struggled to find traction as those Avengers properties, including Iron Man, which also was originally developed by Paramount, fell under the control of Disney. Since 2012, Paramount has finished no higher than 6th among the major studios, and has not reached the $1 Billion domestic mark since 2013.
