I'm looking to buy a home theatre surround sound system and blu ray player. I am using a projector, rather than a TV.
I'm not looking for high-end but it shouldn't sound terrible.
The two systems I'm considering right now are the sony BDVE3100 and the Yamaha yht-1810.
The Sony is a blu ray player with integrated amp and 5.1 speakers, whereas the Yamaha is a receiver and 5.1 speakers.
The price is the same for both systems, though I'd have to get a blu ray player for the Yamaha. In addition to blu ray I also need to be able to play files either from my laptop via Hdmi on the Yamaha or using a USB stick on the Sony.
My suspicion is that a receiver-based system is going to be higher quality than a non-receiver one.
I'd appreciate any guidance.
