Hey everyone

I'm all done with my remodel and I go to mount my TV to the wall and see that I need 3 1/2 inch studs to install the mount.

The studs are 16 inches apart (which are with in specs). They are 1 1/2 inches wide (which is also with in specs), but the are 2 1/2 inches deep instead of 3 1/2 inches. For the remodel I built a recessed space for the tv, so the surround wall has extra 2 1/2 inches in front. I figure this will act like added support, but no sure if the TV will be ok on the wall.

Below is a photo of the area for reference.

I'm using this mount:

and have the Sony 940e which is 95 lbs.

I'm pretty sure that the studs will be fine, but I need some input from the experts. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I don't know, but I'd bet you'll be fine. My mount -- a heavy extendible tiltable mount holding a heavy plasma from 2009 -- is mounted to cabinet-support panels mounted to 2"x4" studs (all behind the drywall).

Four years later, my mounting is fine.
