I need to replace a Denon AVR-3808CI. I have been happy with it, though I need to replace it with a receiver that will support my 4K TV and different 4K devices. I want to connect a 4K DirecTV, a 4K AppleTV, a 4K Xbox, and have room for future additions. Other then that I do not know what to look for. Can someone please recommend a receiver that produces good sound, and might be somewhat future proof for the next 5-7 years under $700?

Thanks in advance.

At this late date as most of the older models are out of stock now, it's going to be hard to find such a receiver for under $700.00 that's one of the newer models that came out since this past summer. My best recommendation is this open box Denon 3400 from Crutchfield for $899.99.

Here is a listing of Denon receivers. You might want to check out the Denon 2400 if your $700 is definitely the most you can spend.

Besides watts, what are some of the other main differences between the receiver at the price point you recommended and something like this

Is it just features and watts or sound quality also?

Thanks
At the link below you can do a side by side comparison between the 3400 and the 730 models as far as specs. There are some major differences. I don't have any idea what's important to you, but what I do know is that you pay for what you get. That 730 model is less than half the amount of the 3400 model which tells me the 730 features, power, number of HDMI inputs/outputs, ability to scale 4K & etc. is less than the 3400 model.

I found the 3300 for under $600 on Amazon. It is a year older but otherwise meets the criteria (works with 4k).

That is a good price for the X3300. I own this model, and it's been a very nice addition to my system. The X-Series receivers have a 3 year warranty instead of the 2 year warranty of the S-Series you were also looking at. The X3300 also has a better version of the Audyssey room correction software, provides its on screen display overlay over a 4K video signal (the screen will go blank on the S-Series you are looking at), and provides DSD decoding -- which is important only if you have any SACDs. There are probably other differences, but those are the ones I remember without looking anything up and that were important to me when I purchased this unit.
