Here are some Paramount Television titles that I’d like to see Visual Entertainment, Inc. release on DVD in 2018 and 2019, if CBS doesn’t do so itself on MOD (manufacture on demand):
TV SHOWS
Barefoot in the Park (1970 TV series) (1970)
Funny Face (1971-1972) / The Sandy Duncan Show (1972-1973)
Me and the Chimp (1972)
Love Story (1973 TV series) (1973-1974)
Paper Moon (1974 TV series) (1974-1975)
Archer (1975 TV series) (1975) (also includes the TV movie The Underground Man)
Kate McShane (1975)
Serpico (TV series) (1976-1977)
Blansky’s Beauties (1977)
Mulligan’s Stew (1977)
Szysznyk (1977-1978)
Who’s Watching the Kids? (1978-1979)
The Bad News Bears (TV series) (1979-1980)
Out of the Blue (1979)
Working Stiffs (1979)
The Associates (1979 TV series) (1979-1980)

I'll have a heart attack if Me and the Chimp ever comes out on DVD. To think Ted Bessell went from That Girl to that! Its cancellation enabled Kami Cotler to join the cast of The Waltons, and it merited a reference on Newhart as one of the only shows WPIV could afford to rerun (The Ropers and Bracken's World were the others).

The Powers of Matthew Star I might actually buy; I can't say it had anything to do with my first name being the same as his, but it aired when my mom was pregnant with me. And Peter Barton was certainly easy on the eyes. But even the Coy and Vance season of The Dukes of Hazzard beat it in the ratings, as did Benson. It was also competing with another Paramount show, The New Odd Couple with Ron Glass and Demond Wilson in the fourth reboot after the play, the 1968 movie, and the 1970-1975 TV show.

So, have you sent your list to VEI? Have you checked which shows have existing modern tape elements which can be used and aren't either on 2-inch tape or 35mm film?

Neil,

For those you mention, would have to be released directly by CBS through its MOD-DVD release program.

Do you think that CBS will replace the Paramount logos of the time with the CBSTD logo of now? I certainly don't think so (after all, they did let the Blue Mtn. through on Best of The West [albeit w/the 1979-80 jingle]).

The Immortal has period logos. I think. They aren't current, but aren't the same as the Sci-Fi channel prints, either. I get a little lost as to what the Paramount TV logo was used in 1970...

Ben,

I have to admit I haven't heard of many of the shows you listed and being 62, my TV watching days go way back. If my holy grail Ben Casey can't make the cut, i think most on your list unfortunately, will be in the same sinking boat.

They also did not plaster the logos on The Young Lawyers DVD, except for the 1969 TV movie pilot.

Unlike on VEI's DVD release of The Immortal, though, none of the Paramount TV logos on The Young Lawyers, meaning with the 1970 Lalo Schifrin music, have the additional Paramount copyright info stamp below the Gulf+Western byline (The Immortal only had that peculiar version of the logo on the fourth episode; the same version also appeared on several season 2 episodes of The Brady Bunch on DVD, and on all the 18 episodes [with the Schifrin music] on the original Time/Life DVD release of season 1 of the classic Odd Couple).

Where is there an announcement for "Bad News Bears?" Can't find it on Amazon.

I'm not surprised it's making it because it was a title listed in the CBS Syndication bible.

I found it on TVShowsOnDVD's Facebook page... going there, look at their latest weekly roundup, which says the street date for this release will be this Halloween.

Not sure what's going on between VEI and Amazon... but you can buy it direct from VEI.

While the production of tv shows on dvd's have gone way down, I do think there will be a slight uptick of short lived tv programs coming out on DVD, especially with most of the popular series have already come out.

--that leaves the one season wonders, so to speak.

Looking at the above list I can't imagine any company wanting to invest in putting most of these on a format that is dying. I can't imagine them selling more than a few dozen discs of any one episode, I don't see any of these being money makers in any form or fashion.

That's the trouble with many of these less-popular shows... how else will they be seen in the future without DVDs?

I am still hoping to have both The Bad News Bears and The Powers of Matthew Star (as well as the 1981 version of Nero Wolfe) on my Christmas shopping list.

That's just it, most of these aren't even considered "popular" by anyone other than a small fraction of a fraction of TV viewers of today. Other than a very tiny handful of folks who grew up seeing them first hand on TV that feel a strong desire to own, we are far removed from finding any other generation that wants to see a show that barely survived 1 season from decades ago.

The only real hope is some TV channel like Antenna TV and MeTV decide to do a lost shows of "fill in the blank" and toss in a few of these shows late night.

Buzzr did something like that quite recently, and I saw The Better Sex and Classic Concentration, among other things.
