I guess we will all find out soon if Pioneer is going to release a 4K UHD Blu-ray player! And they will have a model that will match what has been produced by Oppo.

What makes a gear "PREMIUM"?
Is it just the aesthetic look? Or what's under the hood?

I just couldn't help to notice that in recent... months... or even from last year, majority of the disc players pushed to the market seems to be... "less complex" at the back.
No more 2channel analogue audio RCA connections.
No more Multi-Channel analogue audio connections... Well... no more analogue video ports for those whom may not have upgraded their displays to FHD and above...

Cleaner backs, lesser dependence on D-A converters, where most of the cost goes to that stage. The display gears will handle the jobs thru HDMI connections... so as the audio part.

So... what are we paying the PREMIUM price for?
Just the looks? Or...again... What's under the hood?
