I am in 100% agreement, Robert. I believe the Edmund O'Brien version is now a PD title, so God knows who has the OCN or a usable print. I love this film. The Disney update makes some truly inexplicable changes to the story and ultimately rather sucks. Too bad -- an early-career role for Meg Ryan and she was cute as hell, but for naught, in my opinion.

The original is a terrific film. I'd love to see a BD release -- if I recall, the DVD transfer I own isn't that great. Until this thread, I didn't even know that a remake existed.
