How does one “test” a code without it being redeemed?

Just curious.

You type the code in at moviesanywhere or other redemption site for example, if it had already been redeemed, you would get a message saying so.
If not, the name and format of the film of the film would show up, then you would have to sign in to actually redeem the code.
