Worth repeating.

Looking forward to all the predictable yearly bitching about how irrelevant the Oscars are, how someone’s favorite film or performance got “snubbed”, how boring the Oscars are, yadda yadda yadda.

It’s as sure a thing as the turning of the Earth. :D

So, does this mean Best Picture will either go to Roma (what I have believed for some time) or The Favourite (which I think I'd be most happy about because I am a fan of Yorgos) because they garnered the most nominations?

I'm always amazed by the disconnect between Best Pic and Directing. Eight BP nominees, and only four of those get Directing nods. The odd man out, Cold War, is apparently one of the best directed films, but not worthy of the Top 8 among the BP's.

And while those other four films were somehow worthy of BP, their directors apparently sucked, which makes one wonder how they're "best" without a worthy director.

I've just seen one of the films on these lists, Black Panther. I really have no interest in the rest. I MAY watch Bohemian Rhapsody when it streams

The only films I've seen on the list are Black Panther, A Quiet Place, and Ready Player One.

Of all the nominees, I've seen:

Black Panther, Roma, Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, A Quiet Place, Avengers: Infinity War, Ready Player One, Solo: A Star Wars Story

I'll also be watching First Man this week. Obviously, I've missed quite a few! I'm looking forward to rectifying that once more of these films see a disc and/or streaming release.

I think Roma and The Favourite have ten nominations each though, wouldn't you think one of them would have to be Best Picture?

Green Book is not even nominated for Best Director...which I think means it is just a throw in to round out the Best Picture category.

Alfonso will win Best Director. Green Book will win BP imo.

Picture and director are not so linked anymore as much as it used to be.

And I’m basing this on previous wins for both this year.

GG and PGA for Green Book

GG win and DGA nom for Cuarón.

I think the Green Book director not getting nominated might be due to who the director is and the issues some in the academy might have against him.

I'm going to try to watch Roma on Netflix which would leave only one Best Picture nominee I haven't seen which is The Favourite which I might not see as the trailers don't peek my interest in it.
