I didn’t see a dedicated topic for this show.
It’s my favorite tv show and was thrilled about 18 months ago when Hulu put season one up and said the rest where coming.

They finally did put the rest up.

Takes place in the fictional hospital St Eligius in Boston.
The hospital doesn’t have a great reputation and is nicknamed St. Elsewhere.

In season one we get introduction to all the great characters including many guest stars who are no slouch and most are well known even at the time.

This show was great at juggling a huge ensemble giving plenty of time to shine for everyone.

The standout for me is Terence Knox as Peter White.

Early in the season we see plenty of evidence of a coming downfall for Peter White and he does it convincingly.

This is a great show. Check it out on Hulu.

Rewatching on HULU also. I have to admit this isn't exactly packing the punch that it did for me 30 years ago, but I'm still enjoying it.

Halfway through season 3. The writing of the characters is perfection. There have been so many TV series since this that have gone so far beyond in terms of "shock value" that this particular series almost feels tame, which is sad.

Dr. Craig, and Erlich, continue to fascinate me just like they did so many years ago.

The Peter Horton character was always strange to me he just showed up and everyone was like he was always there.

I watched the episode That With the death of Jack’s wife.

Pretty sure it was the only ep she appeared in too.
The writers really kept beating the crap out of him over the years.

Ok.

Now I am into it, and now I can say without a doubt- St. Elsewhere is the best show ever created. No need for a debate. It is a fact;)

My god. the writing, the acting, the sadness, the joy, the comedy, and the small moments of character growth. What an amazing, and inspiring series this is.
Perfection.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yeah pretty much.

The cast is great and huge too but everyone was used to near perfection.
I’m taking my time with it.

I just watched Entrapment which from faulty memory I think was the real start of Peter White’s downfall.

The ending the episode that had Dr Craig’s heart patient die was all great acting.
Craig walking down the hall and the look on his face and body language, devasting.

I will keep HULU as long as they have St. Elsewhere. Since there is no other way to view it. If they have it for another 5 years, I will subscribe another 5 years.

It is positively obscene that this great show has never been given its due on home video - NO DVD, and NO BLU-RAY. Endlessly quotable/watchable moments and some of the finest situations, writing and ensemble acting ever committed to the small screen. It doesn't get any better than St. Elsewhere!

I've always wondered how far ahead they show runners had thisa planned.

Just watche s2ep15 Attack.
The Rapes had started an ep previous to this one.
Fiscus had just spoken with Dr Cavanero about escorts to protect the woman.
She pointed out that he may have signed up the rapist.
Fiscus walks out of the stairwell and sees Jack and tells him that they'll never know what a woman has to go through when she gets raped.

If that isnt foreshadowing then I don't know what it.

I guess not.
At least not aware of this topic.

Pretty sure I mentioned awhile ago in the Hill street Blues topic that Hulu had S1 of SE and the rest would be coming eventually.

I just always thought Jack was an easy target since he was such a "nice" guy. Not sure if they did have that story plotted that far in advance. Since the show was so richly textured, maybe they did. Nice observation.

Yes he was an easy target.

The man who eventually raped him in season 4 or maybe 5 also was the same man who’s wife was murdered in the first couple of eps in the first season by Tim Robbins in what was essentially his first real role.

Almost done with season 3. If I remember correctly season 4 is the best of the series(along with 1). I can't wait to find out.

S2e20 has a different version of the opening theme.
More elevator music like. This to is also dir by Tim Matheson

I’m about to go down the shared universe rabbit hole that suggests almost every Tv show is connected to St Elsewhere.

Wat Hong 1776 tonight.
TCM aired a version that takes up a 3 hour slot.

It looked to me like William Daniels May have based Dr Craig on his version of John Adams in 1776.

Both are a bit on the surly side. Very similar attitudes.
Nearly the same person.
