Very sad to read this. He had a remarkable painter's eye which he utilized not only in his films but in his stage work as well. I need to revisit some of his movies soon.

I had the great pleasure of seeing his stage production of Saturday, Sunday, Monday in London in 1974 with Laurence Olivier and Joan Plowright; a wonderful night at the theatre.
