Are there still people out there who prefer to watch new(ish) TV programs in standard definition? I guess so.

Unfortunately too many folks are still willing to buy dvd or dvd-mod releases of current tv shows.

Before Fox was gobbled up by Disney, Fox was also famous for discontinuing tv on bluray releases in the middle of a show's then-current run. For example: Bones, The Strain, Glee, Archer, Sleepy Hollow, etc ....

This list will shrink when Homeland and Modern Family are ending next year.

For the other shows, the question is whether Disney will actually give a damn about releasing further season sets.

Well, it is the only option

(On a general tangent).

The way I see it, is if dvd is completely unacceptable to a person (for whatever reasons), they have the absolute right to spend their cash on something else that is NOT dvd.

Unless you signed a blood oath where there is an absolute death penalty upon violation, nobody is obligated to buy anything on dvd.

Whether due to stupidity, ignorance, feeble mindedness, apathy, inertia, habit, resignation, etc ... or other irrational (or rational) reasons, there is people willing to buy the dvd versions of current / recent movies and tv shows which were originally done in HD (or higher) resolutions from the start.

The way I see it, the movie companies are just responding to customer demand adjusted for costs / liabilities. They're largely a "symptom" when it comes to dvd still being dominant.

Ultimately the blame for the non-ubiquity of bluray (and 4Kbluray) in the general market, I believe lies with the bluray advertising / propaganda people failing to convince the general public of the virtues of bluray. (ie. Not enough people believed in the propaganda or understood any of it).

The general public must be blind- all you have to do is see the difference for yourself. Even HD streaming looks better now than standard DVD. Meanwhile Blu-Ray players don't even cost a lot more, unless your price limit is $30.

I suspect the general joe q public largely doesn't give a damn, even if one knows and sees the difference. Unlike the hardcore video and/or nerdy/geeky types where they are more likely to care about the differences.

Back to the original topic.

In terms of recent Fox owned shows on dvd (or bluray), the ones which I suspect are vulnerable to going dvd-mod after season 1 would be stuff like: 9-1-1 and The Orville.

Skimming through the above lists, past Fox shows over the past decade are vulnerable to going dvd-mod after season 1.

Though regardless of whether a show is owned by Fox or not, nowadays I wait several seasons in before I make any purchasing decisions.

... and yes, I understand fully that others and myself pursuing this type of buying strategy for current tv seasons sets, may very well be accelerating the process of tv show season sets going dvd-mod / bluray-mod or outright discontinued. Basically a negative feedback system.

Also this isn't just happening with then-newer shows.

This can also happen for current long running tv shows which had over a dozen seasons released on dvd already. The precedents for this are Grey's Anatomy which discontinued dvds after season 13, and Law & Order: SVU which went dvd-mod for seasons 18 and 19.

The fact that the general public is completely "blind", is the surest sign that the bluray advertising / propaganda folks completely failed utterly in their jobs.

Without getting heavily into politics, the only way to get the general public to do something after propaganda has failed completely, is to impose it by legislation and law enforcement.

Though in the case of CBS, they might be willing to go back to pressed dvd discs if they release a complete series set for a show which went dvd-mod. This was done for Becker.

The question is whether CBS/Paramount is interested in releasing complete series sets for shows which went dvd-mod, such as: the Odd Couple reboot, I'm Dying Up Here, Episodes, and Jane The Virgin.

In the case of CBS, it appears they're mostly dumping their less popular one-hit wonders (ie. 1 or 2 seasons) and unsuccessful sitcoms to dvd-mod. (CBS seems to be deficient in creating their own successful sitcom, where they seem to be dependent on Warner).
