Yes - they are a bit hit-and miss (Terminator 2 was probably the nadir but the DNR was James Cameron's fault). Don't Look Now looks nice projected from the 4K disc. The previous Angel Heart blu-ray is so horrible, I think anything would be an improvement though.
Thanks for letting us know about this, and reminding me it's available. I managed a theater in NYC where this premiered ( got to escort Ms. Bonet to her seat and she was very cordial) and I recall the wet gate print we showed (supervised by Mr. Parker) was so dark during certain scenes you couldn't make out people's faces, and had to go by the voices who was who. Also, I remember the color was pushed to the yellow side of the spectrum (which I'm assuming was on purpose, especially noticeable during the intimate scene between Ms. Bonet and Mr. Roarke.)
Yes - the blu-ray is region 'B'-locked. It's very rare that Studiocanal licenses their masters to North America but they did so for Apocalypse Now.
Projected, the 4K disc is so dark, you can only see the silhouette of Mickey Rourke against the window in his office in the opening scenes. In the booklet, Alan Parker writes how they drained everything of all primary colours for a monochromatic look. "Rather sarcastically, (producer) Alan Marshall reminded us of the perversity of huge numbers of painters required to paint the colour out of the film. For in film art direction it does, of course, take six layers of paint to make something look unpainted."
