There was often a horror subtext to some of the guest's fantasies, but this makes the subtext just text.

Also, Mr. Roarke was always a fiercely moral being. This Mr. Roarke seems sadistic, instead.

This would have to be more edgy to make this a more successful venture as a theatrical movie. The original syrupy-like story lines would not bode well on the big screen.

This movie is has already tripled its production budget, nothing but profit for the studio.

Of course when the production budget is $7 million, what would you expect?

It would seem that way, but Blumhouse seems to have high expectations even if the budgets are low. They consider Happy Death Day 2U a disappointment at $65 million worldwide vs. $9 million budget, and have put the brakes on a third film.

Seems like perfect "direct to video" or in today's world, streaming service fodder. Not everything is cinema-worthy.
