Naim upgrades to Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation

Naim Audio has introduced the latest member of the award-winning Mu-so wireless music system family, namely Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation. The company says there have been extensive software, hardware and design upgrades to the system, launched originally in 2016 as Mu-so Qb,

The new unit includes Naim’s streaming platform, designed for digital music collections, access to Internet radio, or for streaming services like TIDAL and Spotify, and it’s worth remembering that the platform is only available in Naim music streaming products, including the Uniti range and all the way up to the flagship ND 555.

Onboard the new Mu-so Qb is a new 2nd Generation illuminated volume dial with control array and proximity sensor. The system can also be controlled via an updated Naim app and remote control handset. The housing is available with the same burnished grey aluminum chassis as the former unit, and optional grilles come in olive, terracotta and peacock colors.

The Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation is capable of a claimed 300 Watts of power complemented by new drivers developed with collaborators, Focal, and the new DSP engine has “10 times” the processing power of its forebear, lending to “even greater musical accuracy.” Music can be streamed in hi-res (up to 32bit/384kHz) via UPnPTM, and songs can be browsed through AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Chromecast built-in and Internet radio. Wi-Fi connectivity has been improved, and the new Mu-so supports Bluetooth, USB and an optical input for connecting to a TV.

Naim is targeting this compact streamer for consumers wanting a system for rooms such as bedrooms or kitchens, and the Naim app allows the Qb to network with the manufacturer’s other products, or via AirPlay 2-compatible wireless speakers over the Apple Home app, and Chromecast devices over the Google Home app. The app can be used on both iOS and Android devices, and allows browsing by artist, genre and album, complete with artwork and extended music information. Users can also control volume, light settings, room modes and create playlists, and the Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation is Roon Ready.

“The launch of Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation brings Naim’s Award-winning music-streaming platform to more people – and rooms – than ever before. Its size-defying power and performance make it a superb option on its own, but it’s also perfect as part of a multiroom system – ideal for smaller spaces where the bigger Mu-so, which is increasingly finding a home under the TV as a soundbar as well as a music system, may not fit,” says Naim Audio MD, Charlie Henderson.

The Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation will be available from from September 2nd for $899, and you can read more about it here.
