Samsung unveils 2019 4K and 8K QLED line

Samsung has announced that its 2019 TV line – including new QLED 4K and 8K models – are available for purchase or pre-order on Samsung.com and other retailers now. The new TVs use the company’s ‘Quantum Processor’, and Samsung says the 2019 QLED TV lineup includes more screen size options, picture enhancements and smart TV upgrades.

“Our 2019 QLED line is designed for users who want the best combination of picture quality, smart TV capabilities and design,” said Andrew Sivori, VP, TV Product Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. “This year’s lineup represents our largest screen size offering ever. It brings together innovative feature enhancements and exciting content and service partnerships to deliver a truly groundbreaking viewing experience and unprecedented value.”

“We have witnessed our customers’ unfaltering confidence and affection towards Samsung QLED TVs within the past year,” said Jongsuk Chu, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “This year, our 8K and 4K QLED line-ups are widening the gap in the market for ultra-large TVs. We are proud to deliver our most innovative and immersive lineup to date, and to give users more than they ever thought was possible before.”

Samsung Q900 Series

Due to consumer demand, Samsung is hedging its bets on larger displays, particularly as IHS Markit has recently revealed that the market for 75-inch+ TVs is expected to grow rapidly. The 2019 QLED 4K line will include four series, Q60, Q70, Q80 and Q90, which range from 43″ to 82″. They join the 2019 QLED 8K line, which is available in five sizes ranging from 65″ to 98″.

The 2019 Q80 and Q90 have ‘Ultra Viewing Angle’ technology to improve light uniformity. While purporting to reduce glare and enhance colors, the tech promises to provide “a vibrant picture regardless of the viewing position.”  The Q70, Q80, and Q90 models will include ‘Direct Full Array’ technology that uses a panel with concentrated zones of controlled LEDs to adjust automatically to better black and purer white performance.

Q900 Series 8K TVs incorporate Samsung’s proprietary Quantum Processor 8K, upscaling lower-res content to 8K, while also allowing for playback of native 8K programming. This 2019 models also use the processor to optimize audio and video to the specific content on the screen, according to the company. Samsung’s new QLED 4K models feature their own proprietary Quantum Processor.
