Samsung’s The Wall joins The CEDIA Designer program

Last year, we covered the announcement of Samsung’s The Wall, which is the first-available consumer modular MicroLED 146-inch display system. The product has now been added to the home theater design software platform, known as The CEDIA Designer (TCD), which will allow high-end integrators to deliver to consumers technically accurate residential AV spaces while using Samsung’s line of MicroLED displays.

The Wall was first unveiled at CES in 2018 and is a customizable, bezel-less MicroLED display. The TCD software allows home cinema professionals to design a luxury living space “in minutes” using Samsung’s line of MicroLED products. Some of the advantages of The Wall include its 100,000 lifespan, modular configuration and “intra-frame” contrast ratio of 10,000:1, allowing for “infinite” true black representation.

Installation of The Wall does, however, present challenges to integrators in that the speakers cannot be mounted behind the display, so “creative” audio solutions have to be implemented. This problem besieges professional cinema installers of modular MicroLEDs too. TCD’s speaker placement algorithm claims to navigate these challenges by walking an integrator through a step-by-step process to identify a loudspeaker set-up that will provide effective audio for a given room. TCD’s software allows an integrator to specify a center channel to be above or below the screen – or in-ceiling – and therefore partnering with the left and rights on either side, and while recommending the location of each audio component.

“The Wall is a big investment for any integrator – and any client – so having a resource that allows the integrator to design a technically-accurate room with predictable results using these new-to-market MicroLED products will give the dealer peace of mind,” said TCD inventor, Guy Singleton. “TCD will simplify the design process and guide the integrator through the entire process, specifying ideal equipment placement whilst providing all the dealer needs to know in terms of installing The Wall. CEDIA is excited to welcome The Wall into TCD, and is confident that the software will be a huge benefit to those looking to design and install media rooms using Samsung’s MicroLED products.”
