Users of Sony’s ULTRA 4K movie service were notified by e-mail today that effective July 26, 2019 the service would be shut down permanently. ULTRA was Sony’s own 4K movie storefront available on most Sony 4K UHD displays. New account and movie redemptions were disabled back on April 1, 2019. This was after the online Sony Pictures Store was shuttered in January. Much of this is likely due to the closing of UltraViolet effective July 31, 2019, as many studios and retailers are striving to make the transition as seamless as possible. Sony is offering a one-time redemption code of all Sony titles in a users account to be redeemed in 4K UHD on Movies Anywhere, which can then be viewed on Movies Anywhere retail partners such as iTunes, Vudu, FandangoNow, Amazon Prime Video, etc.
