The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–This is one of the most frustrating Best Buy flyers yet in terms of media prices.  If you want to know more details about what Best Buy’s got this week, Best Buy’s weekly ad is available at THIS LINK.    And here’s why I’m frustrated:

–Best Buy, this week, has EXCLUSIVE COLLECTIBLE STEELBOOKS “STARTING AT $24.99.  They show a limited edition steelbook of the 4k UHD version of Kingsman: The Golden Circle.  Now…not only is BB’s wording vague on most of the titles listed in this week’s flyer…but directly below the wording about the steelbooks “starting at $24.99” is an illustration of an EXCLUSIVE steelbook for the first Kingsman film (The Secret Service) for the price of $17.99.  Huh?

–I couldn’t put the prices on this week’s Game of Thrones releases for Best Buy this week because while they are shown in the flyer, they are listed as “starting at $39.99.”  (Although I suspect the standard Blu of GoT: S7 will be $39.99)  They also advertise Game of Thrones “EXCLUSIVES” (without any description of what the titles are or what makes them exclusive) “starting at $44.99.”

–And, Best Buy shows three Disney Blu-rays (Moana, Finding Dory and Cars 3) “starting at $19.99.”

–Or, how about “Fan Favorites (shown: Westworld: S1, Despicable Me 3 and Wonder Woman) “$9.99 and up.”

–And, to continue the frustration…Best Buy wants you to “Catch Up on Your Favorite Shows (shown are various Blu-rays of seasons of Supergirl, Big Bang Theory, Arrow, Flash, Supernatural and Gotham) “starting at $14.99.”

–Strangely, BB DOES list the price on a few things:

$9.99 (“Last Minute Gifts”):  War For the Planet of the Apes, Alien: Covenant, Get Out, Deadpool, The Fifth Element, Blade Runner

$14.99 (“Give Them a Full Stocking.  Prices available Tuesday“) The Hitman’s Bodyguard, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The LEGO Batman Movie, Kong: Skull Island, Suicide Squad, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.  [Why would the $14.99 price on these catalog titles not be available until Tuesday?  Besides a lack of specifics, the flyers are also starting to make no sense.]

–Best Buy Odds and Ends:  And to appropriately cap off this week’s frustrating flyer…a randomly vague offer on some Holiday Best Sellers “starting at $9.99.”

–Target this week has an EXCLUSIVE “WHISKEY STONES” gift set with its Blu-ray copies of Kingsman: The Golden Circle.  No pricing premium for this.

–Target also has an EXCLUSIVE BONUS DISC with its Blu copies of Game of Thrones: Season 7.  The disc includes a 28-minute behind-the-scenes feature called “The Making of Frozen Lake.”  Target is also advertising seasons 3-6 of GoT on Blu for $29.99 apiece.

–Target has the following UHD 4k titles on sale for $15 apiece this week:  Assassin’s Creed, Deadpool, Hidden Figures, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

–Target is also advertising the following Blu-rays on sale this week:

$19.99:  American Assassin, Despicable Me 3 (with a FREE “Mineez” toy–$5.99 value)

$22.99:  Cars 3

–Target has the following titles on sale this week (all Blu-ray unless otherwise noted):

$10:00:  Elf, The Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey), A Christmas Story, White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, Kong—Skull Island (DVD), The Mummy (DVD).

$13:00:  Boss Baby, Captain Underpants: The Movie, Kong—Skull Island, Hidden Figures, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, John Wick 2 (DVD), Wonder Woman (DVD), Logan (DVD), Baywatch (DVD).

I’m not 100% sure (maybe 99%!) about which titles are Blu and which are DVD.  The pictures in the flyer are pretty darn small.

–Target Odds and Ends: Target is having an “Up to 25% off” sale on gift sets.  No specific prices are given.  Some of the Blu-ray titles shown are The Planet Earth Collection, Harry Potter 8-Film Collection, Fast & Furious 8-Film Collection, DC 4-Film Collection, Hobbit & LOTR Trilogies, The Godfather Collection, Bourne Ultimate Collection.  Again, I think those are all Blu-ray releases based on the cover images used in the flyer.

We're pretty much in the home stretch...heading to the finish line of the 2017 holiday season.

After next week, most of us can take a deep breath from all the new releases and sales from all the various vendors and labels.

Remember to practice safe shopping, be careful, and don't forget...to have fun out there! :D

Pretty much just the 2nd Kingsman film for me this week. Since I've already got the earlier Blu release of The Apartment, I'm going to need a lot of convincing to upgrade.

Thank you, Mike!

Kingsman was fun to watch once, but I don't really feel the need to own it.

Detroit is a sensational movie, and deserves to be seen by a wider audience than found it theatrically. But it's way too intense and difficult for me to want to see it repeatedly. I would highly recommend a rental if you haven't sen it yet, but once is enough.

So, nothing for me on the Blu-ray side of things this week. But because Disney's feud with them mercifully does not extend to CDs, Amazon will be delivering me The Last Jedi soundtrack on Friday.

Thanks for this week's RoundUp. Like you, Mike, I'm not convinced I need the new Blu-ray of The Apartment, but I might change my mind later. I reviewed the earlier Blu-ray release several years ago.

Nothing else for me this week. That's fine. I have stacks of unwatched discs I want to get to, and I need to start some holiday watching, too..

The Kingman sequel will have to wait until a future sale that brings the price below the $10 Mark.

If Best Buy decides to reveal what it's exclusives are for the latest Game of Thrones season, I might be persuaded to pick that up.

Thanks as always, Mike!

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike!

It is an Arrow Films only purchase this week, though it appears The Apartment is delayed, so just Pulp for me.
This is a blind-buy, I hope I enjoy it.

Mike, thanks for the Round Up, and the photo of Sgt. Esterhaus from Hill Street Blues -- I loved that show.

It looks like The Apartment is delayed a couple of weeks, so the only thing I may be getting this week is the Synapse release of Suspiria. Rumor has it that copies may be shipped out this week.

I didn't see it if it was posted, Mike, but Cartwheel has 20% discounts on the first four Harry Potter flicks on 4k (Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire). Regular price is apparently $24.99, which means pre tax price should be right at $20 a pop. There is also 5% off Despicable Me 3, all formats, and 10% of the Men in Black Trilogy 4k.

I'll probably bite on HP because I have the others. And that'll be it for HP until Fantastic Beasts 2 comes out.

Thank you, as always.

It was most certainly NOT posted, Jason!

Thanks Mike,

pre-ordered The Apartment, when it was first announced, the price drop since then makes it a good buy, Pre-ordered Suspiria, so waiting on that as well, so the only two i am looking at picking up are the late announced Luke Cage blu ray which is not showing up anyplace except best buy, and trying to decide which color egg Steelbook of Game of Thrones S7.

Kingsman might be a possible, if they are going to release another "Premium Edition"

"Luke Cage" is supposed to be released this Tuesday as well although I can't seem to find a preorder for it on Amazon. Being lazy I was hoping that a wonderful, highly talented person at HTF ( <- grovelling :) ) would find it and make it readily available for us mere mortals ( <- more grovelling ) could just simply click on it :D

Regards,

BTW - never too early to thank you Mike and the gang for all the hard, wonderful work that you do throughout the year !

It looks like Sorcerer's Stone is going to be a tough one to find. No Target in my area has it, BB is out and Amazon isn't listing it as far as I can tell on mobile. The hunt continues!

I had no references for a release of Luke Cage this week, Shakeel. So I'm feeling confident that you were misdirected somehow. In fact, I can't find information on a release date ANYWHERE.

Thanks to you, though (and everyone else) for the kind words.
