The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Here are my pre-orders for this week:
  • The Big Knife (may have to return due to hearing about missing scene)
  • Crime of Passion
  • Mr. Mom
Holding off on Blade Runner 4K for a better price, and Rebecca will be mine on the next B&N sale.

What a surprise, Mike. A Scarlett Johansson photo featured in the round up! ;)

I actually have a few things on order this week. BD's of They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, Mr. Mom and the UHD of Cabin in the Woods. I'll pick up Rebecca during the next B&N Criterion sale, and the UHD of Blade Runner if Warner Brothers ever reduces their ridiculous price.

Thanks for another RoundUp, Mike!

I don't know how Chronically Metropolitan got left off of your Blu-ray list but made it onto the DVD list since it was such a BIG hit in theaters (snark mode off). I did review the Blu-ray and it can be found here. Security was also released on Blu-ray, and that review is here.

I requested Rebecca for review, but if it's coming, it hasn't arrived yet. I don't think there is anything else on this week's list I'm expecting in. I will certainly be purchasing Maurice.

As reliable as the sun rising in the east.

Teri Garr's legs are missing!

Good grief, they are!

Slow week for me. I'd pick up some UHD titles if the prices weren't nuts. I plan to rent All Eyez on Me. I have a good friend who is an actor with a role in it.

I wonder if there were production issues, or just a severe underestimation of demand, but both Amazon and Best Buy are completely out of stock on Blade Runner in 4K with no anticipated ship date this month (I think BB's is October and Amazon's is "we'll notify you").

Unless there was massive underestimation of demand, Amazon will probably have it by the weekend.

When I was going to order Sunday, Amazon noted I should expect it in mid-Sept. (and I'm Prime). So I didn't order because I thought I'd get it from BB in store. Last night just for giggles I put it in my Amazon cart and went to check out and it said Oct. 11 est. date. So I canceled. Then this morning BB's site says it's not available within 250 miles of me, and no ETA on online order delivery. So I went back to Amazon and now it doesn't say Oct. when I put it in my cart and go to checkout, it says "we'll notify you when it ships". So I think the delivery date has been pushed out tremendously. Those pressing plants better get to work...

My two pre-orders from Amazon which should have arrived today...didn't.

This is getting ridiculous on their end.

Each time it happens their reps say the same thing (surprise!) that the delay is the result of a combination of human and technical error. And then, in the very next breath, they say that will guarantee it to me that it won't happen again.

They then tried to convince me that Megan Leavey was NOT eligible for release date delivery. Unfortunately for him, I had e-mails telling me that I would receive it on September 5th (the most recent being sent on September 2nd). I also got redundant text messages telling me the same thing. So I really get peeved that they spout non-sensible gibberish and then add that they are not at fault of breaking their delivery promise to me.

I ended up with a $20 gift card, a refund of $17...and an extension of my prime membership. I certainly can't complain about any of that. But I had to be persistent and try to get him to explain how a confirmation e-mail from him was any different from any of the other e-mails and text messages that I have already gotten. And then--wouldn't you know--he again insisted that I will never again have this happen.

Thanks, Harpreet. English was very clearly not his first language. At least they have stopped trying to convince me that I'm talking with "Steve in Kansas City."

Reminded that Doctor Who Series 10 Part 2 was scheduled for next week, I looked in on Best Buy's website...
and saw that it was available now, on sale at $19.99 (Blu Ray).

Amazon also lists it as available "now", priced around $21.99 as I type.

Sorta puzzled; first thought maybe a retailer-exclusive 1 week window, but with two major competitors listing...?

In any case, it's in my hot little hands now.

I think it's a production issue and not a demand mis-estimate or feud related. there are too many posts about people not being able to find it anywhere.
The first assembly of this multi-disc set included the documentary on DVD, which was an error, and may be what is causing the delay in shipments to retailers. The odd thing is, although the "corrected disc" is a Blu-ray, the doc is still in SD.

Having a look-see in case Wonder Woman is out.

I recommend" The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks". We watched it when it was playing on HBO and it's a moving and fascinating story, and strange slice of history.

By the way, Wonder Woman 3D is same price as 2D on Amazon, $25. The 3D is $30 at BB and not eligible for price matching (for me), listed as online purchase only.

BBY seems to have 2 versions of the 3D -- the standard one is currently 34.99 though that probably will drop to 24.99 when it gets to release and what appears to be a 29.99 exclusive with a slipcover and Art Cards
