Note I decided to do in wall speakers, not what I had originally planned. To try and get the same sound from everything I did kind of make boxes for the side and rears in the framing. I used XTC ceiling speaker enclosures found on eBay for the Atmos speakers.

Cutting holes for the lighting and speakers. I am a machinist by trade and already had measurements for everything. I told them to leave the drywall alone, I'll cut the holes myself to make sure it's right.

Putting down some paint. Crazy how much lower the ceiling feels when it's black.

Installing Atmos speakers, lighting, and building the riser. I hired someone to do the carpet.

My false wall set up. I did the goal post design and made a separate frame for the screen that is hinged. This way I can flip it up and have access to the equipment behind the screen along with my Sony Vega for old school video gaming. I still have to get a prop set up done to hold it up.

Pretty much done. This is where it was at the end of July. I have some black velvet stretched across the bottom right now to hide what's behind it but need to finish a proper masking panel. I was planning on masking panels all the way around but when the lights are out, the only things that show outside of the screen is what's underneath it and the lights in the AV rack. I am going to put some dark tint on the glass to black it out. Between the rack and the panel under the screen, everything will be good.

I need to get some new pictures. There are some improvements since these most recent pictures. The black velvet under the screen I noted as well as black wire loom for the wires running to the AV rack out of the ceiling. Together those two things cleaned it up a lot.

As for equipment here's the list.

Middle Atlantic AV Rack - used off of marketplace
Denon X4700H AV Receiver
Russound 2 channel amp to drive the last 2 speakers
Panasonic UB420 - Ultra HD Blu Ray Player
Roku Ultra for streaming

Subs - HSU VTF-15H MK2 (x2)
Front speakers - JBL Studio 580 (x3)
Side and rear surrounds - JBL Studio 2 6iw (x4)
Atmos speakers - JBL Studio 2 6ic (x4)

Projector - Epson LS12000

Acoustic Panels - GIK acoustics
Tri-Trap corner bass traps (x2)
244 bass traps 24"x48" (4ea)
4" Impression series bass trap diffuser/absorber (x4)

Screen - 150" Silver Ticket WAB acoustic transparent screen

Beautiful setup…alas, no 3D for you.

Wow, a 150” screen! I’m still hoping to get a 135 incher.

Yup, no 3D for me. If I want that I'll have to watch my old plasma in the game room.

I originally planned to go 135". I set up the plastic sheet seen in the one picture and projected a test at 135" and 150". I was leaning towards the 135", feeling like maybe the 150" was too big. My wife liked the 150". In my research I'd seen numerous people say once they got used to the size they originally went with, they wished they'd gone a little bigger. I remembered that and along with my wife's preference, went for the 150". I'm glad I did. Felt a little big at first but I quickly got used to it and think it's perfect for the room and seating position.

Hey. We are building a new home. This house has a room they call flex room can be used for game room big finding room or just whatever you want I guess. We have a media room in our home now but I always thought it was real narrow at 10x 18 it has my wife’s peloton and my computer in it now. I am going to attach a pic of the room. I’m looking for ideas. I’d love to get a projector and a full surround with atmos. Right now in our movie room we have a full Sonos system it is nice but I want to do a more traditional style system. Is this room big enough at 14x18? Also it has a big window that faces out I figured I would just have to get some blackout curtains.

I would say that's definitely big enough. If you look at the pictures of my room, it's about 13' across in the back part of the room where the seats are. It's right about 18' in length from the back wall to the screen. I have 2' behind the screen but with in wall speakers you could have the screen on the wall. You would have options. I think it would be a very good size for a theater.

I'm no expert, I've only built one theater as seen in this thread. What I can tell you is I learned through all of my research that everyone touts the biggest and best things and it will make you think what you are trying to do is sub par. It's easy to go down the rabbit hole and think what you are doing is never going to be good enough.

I have a couple bass traps behind my false wall in the one corner and then the 8 panels on the walls. I figured it would be a good start and I can add more down the road. I have now decided I am sticking with what I have. It sounds absolutely fantastic and I love it. I think you'd be fine with doing the bass traps behind the drapes. If you want to spend more go for it but from my experience, you most likely don't have to have the best to be extremely happy with the end result.

For sure... Just don't become this guy (w/ his audiophiliac uber-obsession), heh...
