Just finished watching S5. Pretty good follow up to S4 although slightly below it in terms of "it's so good I could not turn it off". Plus I wanted to better savor each episode. Going to be a long wait until the next:(
I believe the theme can be summed up in a sentence used several times ( and which perhaps could be very apt in our current election season ) namely "The truth has got to count for something"

Roll on Walt !!!

I thought S4 was pretty weak, watched 2 episodes of S5 and so far its ok, I don't like where they are taking Standing Bear DIamond Phillips Character, I'd prefer no Superheroes on My Longmire, looks like he borrowed Daredevil's season 1 outfit. Also I can't stand Ally Walker so I'm not thrilled that relationship is continuing

I finished watching S6 the weekend it was released - pretty good overall with a number of surprises! I'm going to miss it but hopeful that there maybe the odd one of special either on Netflix or on the big screen. Certainly day one purchase for the Blu Ray when it's released.

For me, it was a very satisfying wrap.

My only nitpick is that Travis just seemed to kind of disappear in the last couple of episodes. I hope this isn't too much of a spoiler?

CHEERS! :)

Liked almost all of the final season, except for the successor to Longmire......My son and I both thought: ????? At that point it jumped the shark/nuked the fridge for both of us.

Well, they hadn't had the election yet. :)

I really enjoyed the last season and will miss it. I do hope they consider having a one-off movie on Netflix, now and then.

Here is what I was shocked by:

Walt, in his Sheriff's car, plants a big, wet one on Vic. She seems surprised, but doesn't resist. I guess Walt's brooding over his dead wife is over.

Instead of seeking medical assistance for his stab wound, Walt pours liquor over both hands, then rubs his hands over the wound, which seems to start healing already.

Walt tells Vic that he's been shot or stabbed 13 times.

Walt asks Vic to marry him. She declines.

Walt retires and will spend the rest of his days riding his horse. No more four-wheeled vehicles for Walt.

Walt discloses his choice to replace him. Is it Vic, Ferg, former/rehired deputy Zach? Nope, it's his lawyer daughter Cady who apparently is impervious to bullets and knives, and is less welcome on the Rez than Walt.

Henry Standing Bear agrees to step out from behind the Red Pony's bar and to manage the Casino, wearing a sharp black suit. Will the change in venue and responsibilities result in Henry using a contraction? It is not likely; he will not do it.

I wasn't shocked or disappointed by the finale. What development wasn't telegraphed over the past season or more?

I think the choice for who to run for new Sheriff was a bit of a stretch. But the minute they built up the romance between Cady and Zach and they needed a justification to keep her around, it made sense. It's something Walt would advocate. And, perhaps more importantly, it keeps the title of the series intact. If they ever revisit this series, it just might be the female sheriff version.

I was never super comfortable with the Vic/Walt romance, but she always did come off a bit as the girl with some daddy issues, and once we met her daddy, it made even more sense. And for cliche western fans, it's the most obvious and potentially satisfying resolution. At least there's no marriage in their future.

Henry becoming the casino boss was a bit of surprise, but it made some sense, and it was a hoot to finally see him wear a suit. Also a potential spin-off series, don't you think?

Walt riding off by himself to spend part of his retirement searching for the treasure Lucien was looking for, but with Vic holding fort back at the homestead was, to me, a perfect western ending. I loved the cell phone moment (we know it was her checking on him) with the abrupt Sopranos cut to black.

A comfort food modern western show that basically gave viewers what they wanted by not killing off any of the main player heroes and pairing them up for happy endings. Even my 21 year-old son took to the show and was very happy. We've always got HBO for the more sophisticated - read disturbing - series
