***Official 1st HTF Western Movies/TV Shows Challenge 2024***

1. Watch Western-Movies/TV Shows from midnight March 1, 2024 through March 31, 2024 (use your own time zone to set the ending time).

2. Each Western-Movie/TV show can be viewed by physical media such as DVD, Blu-ray, 4K/UHD, etc. Other means of viewing can be done either by streaming or just watching a TV broadcast such as TCM or any other TV channel and/or internet outlet/app. Recorded or not recorded doesn't matter.

3. Unlike other HTF Movie Challenges, there isn't a minimum number of Westerns you have to watch during this Challenge. Each movie/TV show episode counts as one point each.

4. The only requirement during this Western Challenge is to briefly tell us why you liked or disliked each Western you watched. Please note the viewing means by which you watch the movie/TV show. Whether it was by physical media, streaming, TV broadcast and etc. Furthermore, your opinion can be expressed in just a few sentences or even longer paragraphs as to why you enjoyed the movie/TV show or why the movie/TV show didn't work for you. Such comments serve as an incentive for other people to watch or not watch a Western they never seen beforehand.

5. At the end of the challenge, the point totals will be added up based on the one-point system outlined in number 2 above. There won't be any participation categories like there are in other HTF Challenges. At the end of the Challenge, I will simply tabulate the total number of points each participant accumulated during March. Each participant will be listed with the number of points each has accumulated during March.

Edit:

Right now, I have 47 Westerns listed below that I might watch during this Western Movie/TV Show challenge. Those titles were purchased after I completed my "100 All-Time Favorite Westerns Challenge" back in December 2021. Most of those movies I've watched beforehand. However, many of the following discs/digitals I have only sampled, but never watched the disc/digital in its entirety. A few I haven't received yet which are The Shootist and Quigley Down Under. I expect to receive those two titles before the end of March. There is a chance I might add to this list but also a chance I might drop some from this list. It depends on circumstances and timing. Titles that are in red and strike-through, I have watched during this challenge and their film grade is listed above.

I'll flag this as a placeholder. Hopefully I'll be able to do better than the Noir challenge, though I'm not sure I have as many Westerns in my collection (though usually when I say something like that, I do a search of my database and find dozens, LOL).

Any restrictions on the definition of a "Western"? Would something like Tremors count? It's set in the west and there's at least one scene where they ride horses. :D Or do we have to have saloons, sheriffs, and duels in the street?

Note for those participating in a Challenge for the first time, you'll likely have to PM @Robert Crawford to grant you permission to edit/update your list in your placeholder post.

Gosh, I'd so love to really participate in this. And I will create a placeholder with the hopes I'll have some time to devote to it. Unfortunately March, especially at the start, is gonna be very hectic for me.

I love westerns, and have so many I could choose from and talk about. Time is my hindrance here, not desire. I'll do what I can, Robert. Wonderful choice for a challenge!
There is no minimum number of titles so if you only have time to watch four westerns in March as an example that would be fine and dandy.

That's kind of the great thing about this challenge there is no set limit and you can move at your own speed. B westerns are short, or you can get a cliffhanger and just watch it by chapters and piecemeal it. I got like four Buck Jones serials I've need to dive into been just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Yeah they don't have "A" list stars but it gets the story done just as well and sometimes they surprise the living hell out of you.

It’s up to you which western movie or tv show you want to watch during the challenge. You have to do a running tally with your placeholder post and you would have to do a final tally at the end of the challenge.

Let me say that I consider the movie Hud with Paul Newman among my 100 all-time favorite westerns though it takes place in Texas circa 1960. Another example is Lone Star (1996), the John Sayles movie. Western Noirs are welcome like The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

A movie like Cowboys and Aliens or Prey could be considered a western sci-fi movie.
