The roles that immediately come to mind for me are d'Artagnan's father in Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers, C.S. Lewis in the original TV version of Shadowlands, and the malevolent Mr. Rucastle in the Granada Sherlock Holmes episode The Copper Beeches. But, really he was in a ton of stuff and always great. RIP.

So many great, memorable performances from Mr. Ackland.

After The Mighty Ducks was a success, Disney lowballed him with an insulting offer to come back for D2. Ackland didn't let Disney shove his face in the pillow. Told them to take their offer and stick it. Disney further botched their ties with Ackland by casting some jerk as his character's brother in an attempt to fool audiences. Did not work. Then when it was time for D3, Disney came calling again, with mouse-eared hat in hand. They offered Ackland triple what he made on the first film to come back.

Yes sir, Christmas was especially good for the Ackland-family that year. A fine Christmas, indeed.
