If they eventually release a 4K set of all five movies once the new one comes out, I'd be interested. But I don't think I need individual 4K steelbooks.

SONY's a bit of an odd duck when it comes to 4Ks. They release fancy box sets of franchises like Underworld and Resident Evil but then they go and announce this single film (there's at least three in this series IIRC). Then there all these random steelbooks of films that have already received 4K releases. Don't even get me started on those Columbia Classics sets with exclusive titles.

Four, with a fifth on the way this summer. The upcoming film is more a direct sequel to Chapter 2, bringing back Ty Simpkins as college-age Dalton. It would also seem to be the first in the series to not include Lin Shaye (Elise) in the cast.

Distribution is also an issue. FilmDistrict, who had a home media arrangement with Sony, distributed the first two films, and Stage 6 [Sony subsidiary] was a production company on later films. FilmDistrict was absorbed into Focus Features in 2014, and Chapter 3 and The Last Key were handled by Gramercy [defunct Universal subsidiary] and Universal respectively. However, Insidious: Fear the Dark will once again be handled by Sony via Screen Gems.
