I saw your profile pic - Edmonton Elks and then Twelve Angry Men. Is there a connection?
From a Calgary Stampeder's fan in Calgary.
By the way, I won't criticize too much, the Flames are not doing too great this year.
What I had done in the past with my standard HD (1080p) TV, was to run HDMI out from the cable box to the receiver's sat/cable "in". Then an HDMI from monitor "out" on the receiver to the TV (both ARC). Doing that, I got 1080p on the TV and good sound through my receiver. Doing that with my new...
Thanks JohnRice. Maybe then a non issue.
Another idea I had - just as Blu-ray player has two outputs one for sound, one for video, is there some kind of HDMI splitter I could use coming out of the cable box to send sound to receiver and video to the TV?
To continue my story, I decided to buy a new TV last week - a Sony OLED 65 inch A80K. I love the look of the OLED images. It reminds me more of my old plasma. Happy with my choice, but now back to my 12 year old receiver.
When watching TV channels on cable I seem to have two options: use the...
I just got a 65 inch A80K OLED delivered two days ago. I just viewed some regular cable shows (including a hockey game) and a couple of Ultra HD Blu-rays. All this on Standard settings and no tinkering with the settings. I am impressed so far with straight out-of-the-box. I will mess with the...
So I have decided to go with the OLED 65 inch LG C2 or Sony A80K. I see little difference viewing in-store. The LG is $100 Canadian less ($74 U.S. less) than the Sony.
With that minimal difference, price is not the deciding factor. I have studied reviews on-line comparing the two but I don't...
I am appreciating all the suggestions. My viewing distance is quite flexible in basement setup. Could be anything from 5 feet to 15 feet. Just have to move the three seat recliners.
A brief background. Started with a 42 inch Panasonic 720p plasma TV 14 years ago. I really like the colour on it even though just 720p. The 42 inch is now in the living room upstairs. A few years ago I bought a Vizio M series, 60 inch 4k. It is in my basement with a KEF 5.1 speaker setup where I...
I appreciate all the comments. As my concerns have now switched from receivers to TVs, I am going post my TV questions to DISPLAYS so you can follow me there if you wish.
I really don't think my Vizio M C-3 TV has any HDR features. Yes, it was purchased brand new in early 2017 but I am sure it is a 2016 model. In fact the quick set up brochure had a 2015 copyright on one of the pages.
No the Vizio M C-3 has no HDR. When I get some 4k Blu-ray movies at the end of the week I will see how they look and sound with my new 4k Sony .player and then I can decide if my current system seems decent enough for the moment or if I want to wait another year. Here in Canada our best sales...
Thanks Mike Up for your lengthy response. My eyes are 69 years old and my ears the same. Now that I have my 4k Blu-ray player I will buy a few Ultra HD movies and see how I enjoy that. Maybe then I can answer my own question about replacing a five year old 60 inch 4k TV and an eleven year old...
I disconnected the audio cable, then reconnected and it worked this time. I have no idea why, but I am happy. Thanks to everyone for their help. Now I just have to decide if it is worth it to upgrade my TV or receiver or both.
So I plugged an HDMI cable into the second HDMI-out on the player and went into settings for the player and set HDMI 2 for audio. I plugged the other end into the AVR BD - In and dialed the Denon to BD.
The player worked fine for the video but still no audio. Maybe I have to set something...
Pardon my lack of knowledge, but the second HDMI cable, coming out of the HDMI Out (2) for audio; where would I plug the other end into my Denon receiver? The only HDMI slots not occupied are ones labelled IN - DVD, games, V.Aux. Would one of those work?
I recently bought the Sony 800M2 player so I could play Ultra HD movies and SACD. I swapped out my old Sony S360 player. I was getting no image when I switched my receiver to “Blu-ray”from “Cable”. I discovered it was because my Denon 2311(from 2011) is HDMI 1.4 and can’t pass through the 4k...
Thanks Jim Tod. I do play CDs a lot and have a 5.1 speaker system so better audio does sound appealing to me. Does the 800 have any features missing on the 700?
I'd like to ask Todd Erwin (or anyone else for that matter) why to choose the Sony 800 over the 700? My Blu-ray player died and I've looking at those two models. The specs seem very similar. I can afford the more expensive one (800/M2) but I am not sure if you are getting much more value for...
Does anyone have this on DVD or Blu-ray? It is from a Toronto concert. I don't think it was filmed in HD so is it still better to get the Blu-ray over DVD?
And while I am on the Moody Blues, what about the three disc, 2CD+DVD set of 50th Anniversary Days of Future Passed from 2017? Worth...
If you are dealing with Vanns - I got a great deal on KEF speakers they were clearing out three years ago. They sound great with my Denon 2311 Cl. I don't know what they have for KEFs this year. Not on sale - kind of pricey but - on sale, I find to be a great value.
Mine are about in your "swivel down" spot as it was the only option I had; they don't sound too bad there. I was told that mounting them on the sides are better too, but have no experience to compare.
That is true. You might have to modify the two speaker setup to add the subwoofer to it when it needs to play two channel stuff - but setting the fronts to small and telling the receiver you have a subwoofer might be all it needs.
Wal-mart had Bond singles on Blu-ray for $10 Canadian over the Christmas season. They must have had about 10 titles. I picked up Goldfinger and From Russia With Love. I like Bond movies but am not a diehard fan. There are maybe three more titles I'd like to get that Wal-mart did not have. I...
Setting up DVD player with HD Plasma TV and Cable I have my TV hooked up to my Cable/PVR box via an HDMI cable. I have my old DVD player with component cables running from player to the TV. I have audio cables running from the DVD player and from the cable box to my 5.1 receiver (PVR cannot...
I don't have a gauge yet to measure sound for my 5.1 system so doing it all by ear at the moment. I have the volume on the subwoofer set for 2/3 of the way up and on the receiver for 0 db on the override setting. Does that seem like a good starting point?
I don't recall a huge difference. I found a couple of posts on other forums that I reproduce below, based on the same question you ask. 1-There is really not a huge difference between them. Their tweeters and the frequency they are crossed in are absolutely identical. The iQ7 weighs about...
