There is an island where a bunch of fog comes out of a cemetery, and the fog goes into people's mouths and they scream and explode.

The fog kills a police woman.

That's the movie I immediately thought of as well, although I didn't know the name of it because, when I saw it at a drive-in in the mid 80's (on a double bill with HOUSE OF EXORCISM, the choice was not mine) it was titled GATES OF HELL and I couldn't find a listing for it under that title. All I could remember was that Christopher George was in it, it was one of the worst things I ever sat through and that it included a stomach churning scene of a woman's entrails exiting her body through her mouth, made worse by the fact that my friend Joe brought an Italian sub to the drive-in and chose that moment to open it up and start chomping (I can still smell it.)
