Devil in a Blue Dress fell under the radar upon its release in 1995. A shame as it’s a brilliant film. A compelling mystery explored in the noir genre with exceptional craftsmanship, sumptuous production design, a simmering plot, and terrific performances, particularly from Denzel Washington as the everyman in over his head, and Don Cheadle, his wickedly good friend who is magnificently unpredictable. Criterion brings the film to the home market again, this time as a 4K premiere and accompanying Blu-ray, and it’s a winner all the way.
