Focal has unveiled the new Bathys, the company’s first wireless headphones with active noise cancellation and hi-fi sound. Priced at $799 and available this month, the new cans use 5.1 Bluetooth multipoint or wired connection, care of a USB-DAC mode offering up to 24 bit/192 kHz resolution. Focal says the drivers are French-made, and the set offers 30-plus hours of battery life, high-grade materials and several “attractive” features.
With a “detailed, precise and dynamic sound”, Bathys includes noise-canceling modes: ‘silent’ for journeys with high background noise, and ‘soft’ for home or the office. A ‘transparency’ mode allows perception of outside sounds when required. As well as Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants, there is an adjustable EQ feature and settings can be controlled from a dedicated Focal app. Compatible codecs include SBC, AAC, Apt-X and Apt-X Adaptive, and a ‘clear voice capture’ microphone facilitates super-clear phone...
