I've also always received the HBO streaming services because I pay for HBO through my DirecTV account. Wonder when all of this Discovery business shakes out and HBO Max is gone if the individual HBO streaming service will come back for us sole HBO subscribers?

I just saw a list of movies coming on HBOMAX in MARCH. The content is greatly diminished ...no classics. The majority of the titles are on HBO.
I hope that this is not a complete list.

HBO Max Plans Reveal New Service Info:

Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. will add thousands of titles to its flagship streaming service HBO Max — pulling from its library of unscripted lifestyle shows — without raising the price.

The company plans to charge $10 a month for the advertising-supported tier of the new service, which is expected to be named Max, and either $15 or $16 a month for the ad-free version, according to people familiar with the company’s plans. Those are the current prices for HBO Max.

Warner Bros. will also sell a new, higher-priced subscription for about $20 a month, offering better video quality and possibly other features, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing internal deliberations. The company is still working on the plans and it’s possible they’ll change.

Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav is betting the addition of Discovery’s reality programming will increase the number of people who want to pay for the service, which competes with Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon. Warner Bros. plans to rename the service,

So, they are basically adopting the Netflix price model.

That’s one reason we dropped Netflix.
I currently have only because we got a year for $25 from our phone company.

We already cancelled HBO so looks like we won’t go back in unless a super cheap deal pops up.

As an AV enthusiast with Dolby Vision and Atmos capability, no thanks.

I hate to see another streaming service charging more for 4K/Atmos. Hopefully, the whole industry won't lean in this direction, but it wouldn't surprise me one little bit. I'm only an occasional subscriber to HBO Max, but at $20 a month, I'll be subscribing a LOT more occasionally than I do now. At least we still have the option of no commitment per-month subs. If that business model goes away then we're all screwed.

Yeah, I will likely just go back to subscribing for a month or maybe two each year just to binge on whatever little there is of interest on there. I only did the annual subs because of what seemed like a good enough, combo deal (for over 50% total discount) at the time. Their offerings are definitely substantially worse/weaker than NetFlix in general, and the new changes/shift seem to make them even worse AFAIC -- and really, I'd drop NetFlix to very sporadic reactivations too if that was up to me alone...

Happy they are showing the restored LAND OF THE PHARAOHS, LION IN THE STREETS, STORM WARNING and STRAWBERRY BLONDE. Disappointed HELEN OF TROY is not on the list.

The service, which debuts May 23 in the U.S., which charge subscribers $15.99 a month for an ad-free version and $9.99 a month for a version with commercials — just as HBO Max did previously.

A premium tier with high-quality streaming that allows four devices to stream concurrently will cost $19.99 a month.

Current HBO Max subscribers will have immediate access to the new service. The Max revamp, which will be phased in over the next two months.

No mention if linear HBO subscribers will continue to receive MAX as part of their linear subscription. I assume so and that it will be the middle commercial free tier. Will they charge $5 additional if you want the higher tier with 4K ? Has streaming up to 4 devices stimulatingly not been possible on HBOMAX? They are keeping the standalone Discovery streaming service because people were upset they would have to pay more to get their programs. I don't see how the new MAX will attract anymore subscribers by rebranding. They have removed lots of content that current subscribers wanted and added content that is cheaper elsewhere.
