SANTA MONICA, CA (November 15, 2022) – Experience the true horror of exorcism when Prey for the Devil arrives on Digital December 13 and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray™ and Digital), Blu-ray™ Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital), DVD, and On Demand January 3 from Lionsgate. Directed by Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism), and Screenplay by Robert Zappia and Story by Robert Zappia & Earl Richey Jones & Todd R. Jones, this film that launches horror into the 21st century stars Jacqueline Byers (“Salvation,” “Roadies,” Bad Samaritan), Colin Salmon (Mortal Engines, Alien vs. Predator, Resident Evil), Christian Navarro (“13 Reasons Why,” Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Bushwick), Lisa Palfrey (“Cobra,” “Sex Education,” “Chloe”), Nicholas Ralph (“All Creatures Great and Small,” The Most Reluctant Convert), with Ben Cross (Star Trek, First Knight, Chariots of Fire), and Academy Award® nominee Virginia Madsen (Best Supporting Actress, Sideways, 2004; Candyman, “Designated Survivor”).

Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist…but who, or what, called her? In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, Ann seeks out a place at an exorcism school reopened by the Catholic Church. Until now these schools have only trained priests in the Rite of Exorcism – but a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago. Determined to root out the evil, Ann soon realizes that evil has been expecting her.

Very much looking forward to this possession yarn, as I'm a sucker for demonic possession films -- give me The Exorcist, Amityville II: The Possession and The Exorcism of Emily Rose any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Going to rent it when it first comes out via Redbox before committing to a UHD purchase.

This could have been SO much better....it wasn't terrible, but there were a bevy of missed opportunities that would have raised it beyond the "been there, seen that" level it ended up landing on.

I saw an email from this movie's director in my box today - and was afraid to open it.

I didn't savage "Prey" but I gave it a negative appraisal, so I feared I'd get an angry rebuttal.

Instead, Daniel Stamm wanted to thank me for the thorough manner in which I covered the Blu-ray release!

He said he wished I'd liked it more but was self-effacing and acknowledged the movie got generally weak reviews - he even cited the movie's RT %age! :D

Anyway, I may not have cared for the movie, but Daniel Stamm is a class act!

Now I can't recall if I rented the Blu-ray or DVD...

Either way, it had potential -- something just fell flat with this, as do most of the possession/exorcism yarns that are coming out of Hollyweird today.

It's the "'Exorcist' Problem".

When a definitive tale about a subject has already been done, everything else comes up short.

Same for "killer fish" movies after "Jaws".

Can't disagree with that.

Still, after watching the hyper-kinetic teasers and trailers for this, I expected something....better.

Seems to be the trend today, though.
