Most Disappointing: The Boogeyman (2023), The Popes Exorcist (2023), The Meg 2: The Trench

Special Mentions: The Defilers/A Taste of Honey, A Swallow of Brine, The Flesh Trilogy. These roughie sexploitation shockers may not be technically "good" compared to their big budget, mainstream counterpoints but boy are they a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to diving into the special features. Maybe I'm a pervo sex-film fan more than the horror fan I call myself?

Bride of Special Mentions: That Criterion Tod Browning Sideshow set is about as good a set you will find. All the films are great, the special features (which I watched nov 1) are even better!

Son of Special Mentions: I can't believe INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR is the film that it is. Bananas. I need to run a better series next time.

Curse of Special Mentions: I don't think I have viscerally disliked a movie more than I did The Exorcist Believer (2023). There are technically worse films that I watched this month -NIGHT OF HORROR - but this Exorcist? I legitimately hated it.

I think that's it, but one last thing.

I'm not around the forums much anymore, and post even less. I just want to say thank you to Michael Elliot for hosting the challenge with this thread and to all that participated. This is my 17th year doing it, and seeing all the posts, either from names I'm familiar with or newer member I'm not, I really enjoy and appreciate it. We may be horror loving weirdos, but I'm happy to call you MY horror loving weirdos my friends. Each year I think it will be my last, but I keep coming back because of all you.

I participate in another horror challenge where it takes 2 1hr episodes or 4 30min episodes of TV to equal a movie. I also prefer that method as it evens the playing field. Of course there are those "B" movies from the 30s-50s that run 60-70 minutes so you can make an argument otherwise but I still prefer that counting method for TV. So, no...

My vacation definitely got in the way of doing much movie watching. I did end the month with a double feature of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) and Nosferatu (1922) with marvelous live accompaniment by The Invincible Czars on Saturday the 28th. We also watched Hold That Ghost when it was on TCM. So I failed miserably again this year, but vacation was so worth it. Especially seeing the annular eclipse in San Antonio at the Alamo on the 14th. The ring of fire was spectacular.

Thanks for tallying everyone up, Michael! That's a lot of work, and it's most appreciated. One thing though - from your list above it looks to me like BobO'Link is tied with YOU. Do you not count? Agreed. Congrats to everyone.

I think Michael was saying that Bob/Howie probably has more points by our rules, where an anthology series counts as one point even if the individual episodes are shorter than a feature film. Bob counted The Outer Limits as 2-for-1 as they're only about an hour each and those are the rules at his other challenge.

I counted my viewings of Cabinet of Curiosities as one point each, even though they're only around an hour long. I did count my viewing of one Creepshow episode as only a half-point, as I only watched one of the two stories in the episode.

Yes, the points thing plus... I always count the Vinegar Syndrome documentaries but, at the same time, I always say if I tie with someone those would be "removed" or at least not counted.
