Why did Amazon think they're smart enough to finally kill off United Artists Releasing by merging it into Amazon Original Movies or whatever after buying out MGM? Was it all because of COVID-19 leaving UA a faltering distribution company ever since all movie theaters closed in 2020 and that No Time to Die (which was supposed to be UA's biggest release before the pandemic happened) flopped in the US, or did Amazon lose all faith in the UA brand? The goal for United Artists Releasing was to support independent filmmakers and give movie theaters a wider variety of films, as the movie industry was all about superhero movies and other blockbuster tentpoles and stuff back them.
So, will Amazon and MGM decide to revive and utilize United Artists Releasing with Annapurna or whatever new partner they choose, or rather the United Artists brand in general, whether to brand Amazon/MGM's theatrical distribution arm and support independents wanting to get their movies on the big screen, or to create a new film subsidiary?
