VIZIO Rolls Out New SmartCast Home Features

VIZIO today announced the rollout of new features to its smart TV offering, SmartCast Home. The expanded functionality will now allow access to more entertainment through new apps, including CBS All Access, and personalization of SmartCast Home via a new ‘App Sorting’ feature. The company says users can now sort and reposition preferred apps to enable quicker access to those most commonly used. The latest version of SmartCast Home kicks off today and is available as free cloud-based updates to VIZIO SmartCast 4K Ultra HD TVs and displays, as well as certain HD and Full HD models.

“VIZIO continues to fulfill consumer demands by way of free, rolling cloud-based updates that enable new, intuitive smart TV features via VIZIO SmartCast,” said Bill Baxter, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO. “With versatility, simplicity and value in mind, VIZIO SmartCast is an ever-evolving entertainment solution. Everyday users, cord-cutters and smart home enthusiasts alike are able to continuously receive new features, the latest apps, and other beneficial enhancements that help ensure they are getting the most out of their viewing experience.”

With this latest update, VIZIO SmartCast Home enables repositioning of favoured and most frequented apps on the home screen. This personalization feature promises to provide “more convenient access to preferred apps” while also enabling a “more streamlined” home screen interface to complement viewing and content preferences. You can alter the order of apps on the ‘App Row’ at the bottom of the SmartCast Home screen by selecting ‘Sort App Row’ where prompts guide the process of customizing an app’s position.

A new CBS ‘All Access’ app will enable access to preferred TV shows, the CBS All Access original series listings such as Star Trek: Discovery or The Good Fight, and local live broadcasts can also be streamed, according to VIZIO. There will be other apps in the line-up, including YouTube TV (which allows SmartCast recording of TV from 60 or so networks), Baeble and Toon Goggles. The VIZIO WatchFree free streaming service is included in the App Row.

SmartCast will include ‘TV and Movie Detail’ pages showing a title’s trailer and synopsis, cast and director credits, running time, parental ratings and critics’ insights. The TV and Movie Detail pages will soon allow season browsing and episodes across apps such as FandangoNOW and Hulu, which can then be viewed on a chosen app.

The new updates for SmartCast Home are available on VIZIO.com.
