Restored "The Searchers" in 70mm (2 Viewers)

TCM Film Festival is screening a restored print of Ford's The Searchers in 70mm. It was shot in VistaVision. I'm sure a few here can explain why this would be an optimal theatrical viewing experience. Or is it? Is this blown up from 35mm negative?

It is not optimal, since the printing negative would be derived from data files. The optimal screening would be 4k w/o any intermediary steps.

I bet it will look great on the screen at the Chinese.

Very nice sizzle however, and presumably a great archival pre-print asset.

If I were creating a film-out, it would be 35/8.

Once it is digital a movie may as well stay that way but then it is nice to get some 70mm prints from time to time that are not from Lawrence or 2001!

35/8 is kind of cool but not sure where to find the movie theater with a projector to screen it for a larger audience.

You won’t. Last time I saw 35/8 screened was at my office.

Was that Williamsburg: The Story of a Patriot?

I know a cinema technician who considered getting a 35/8 projector for many years but he could not find anything to use it with as even faded 35/8 prints are extremely rare and so he dropped the idea.

Wow! The Man I Love. The DVD-R is poor but the film is good so I'd love that movie to be restored and preserved.
