I haven't watched it in a couple of years, but I pulled the CBS Special Products soundtrack CD off the shelf last week and listened to it with great relish.
A friend of mine saw Jumanji at the North Hill Cinerama in Calgary before it was demolished.I always wanted to see an actual Cinerama films in a Cinerama theater. Closest I came was an anniversary screening of Ghostbusters at the Cinerama Dome - I was out west for a short visit a decade ago and figured it was better to go there for a regular movie and at least experience the venue rather than miss it entirely.
What a great score!I haven't watched it in a couple of years, but I pulled the CBS Special Products soundtrack CD off the shelf last week and listened to it with great relish.
It is indeed, a fantastic effort by Alfred Newman with assist from Ken Darby - extremely effective in context with the film and in Cinerama surround presentation it brings chills to be immersed in this extraordinary score. It’s one of my earliest soundtrack purchases and the wonderful double disc CD includes music not found on the earlier album. Newman was one of the very best composers and musical adapters in his storied career (winning 9 Oscars!), and this was among his most brilliantly effective scores. What a great score!
I have several versions that have been released over the years, but the most complete and comprehensive is the 2 CD set from Rhino/Turner Classic Movies, R2 72458 is the disc identifier volume number. It’s out of print but I see copies available through eBay at reasonable prices. Well worth it.Which soundtrack is the best. I see many options.
I agree. That's the one to have if you really love this score.I have several versions that have been released over the years, but the most complete and comprehensive is the 2 CD set from Rhino/Turner Classic Movies, R2 72458 is the disc identifier volume number. We had one in Edmonton at our Annual exhibition for years. I saw the rollercoaster film every time, though.A friend of mine saw Jumanji at the North Hill Cinerama in Calgary before it was demolished.
Edmonton’s Cinerama screen was the Meadowlark, which closed in 1992. https://incinerama.com/meadowlark_cinerama.htmWe had one in Edmonton at our Annual exhibition for years. I saw the rollercoaster film every time, though.
Maybe it wasn't "Cinerama" but it WAS a dome theater and I DID see the rollercoaster movie. So I don't know.Edmonton’s Cinerama screen was the Meadowlark, which closed in 1992. https://incinerama.com/meadowlark_cinerama.htm
I think you’re thinking of Cinema180, a dome format show that toured with many carnivals in the 80s. While there was a dome version of Cinerama, it was limited to one film. http://widescreenmuseum.com/widescreen/wingcr6.htmMaybe it wasn't "Cinerama" but it WAS a dome theater and I DID see the rollercoaster movie. I'm sure that's the one I saw. It was so long ago, but I do know it was a dome with a curved screen. This Is Cinerama did start with a roller Coster ride after the introduction.
